“How do you feel about Adam steeling you last minute?” the interviewer asked me. I had just walked down the hallway and arrived at the camera with interviewer who asked some questions to every contestant coming back from the stage.

I wiped away the few tears left on my face and answered: “I feel amazing; I really didn’t see it coming…” I trailed off because suddenly I felt an arm around my shoulder, and when I looked up, I saw Adam flashing a dazzling smile at me. I looked back at the interviewer, ready for another question, but all his attention had moved on to Adam. “Adam, you were playing tactic tonight. Why did you want Ly on your team tonight, when you didn’t turn around for her during the blind auditions?” Adam shrugged before answering the question, the big smile never leaving his face. “Tonight I heard how much more she could give. She made me believe everything she sang and her voice just sounded great. There are always a few minor things, but that’s just something we have to work on.” The interviewer nodded and smiled and the cameraman turned off his camera. Adam released me from his grip and I started to walk towards my dressing room. I was halfway through the hallway when Adam caught up with me. “Hi.” he said, flashing that smile again. I couldn’t help but think he was in a very good mood today. “Hi coach!” I smiled back. He chuckled. “Do you mind if I join you for a moment? I wanted to talk to you about some stuff.” I shook my head. “No, of course not.” We had arrived at my dressing room and I opened the door and got in. Adam followed me and took place on the white couch in the corner of the room. I sat down in the armchair and waited for him to talk. He sat back, and put his one ankle on his other knee. He folded his hands and put them on top of the foot he had put up. He looked very relaxed and very… sexy. I wanted to shake my head at my thoughts, but I guessed it would be better if I didn’t. He would be asking what was going on. And there was nothing. Absolutely nothing.

“So,” he started. “I stole you.”

I nodded. This seemed pretty obvious to me.

“We have to be honest though,” he continued. “You are not the best of the competition, and there is a lot of work and effort that we have to put into your next performance.”

I nodded again. I was a bit lost in my own thoughts. I felt like he had to put up with me, although he was the one that stole me. I guess I must have looked puzzled, because he asked me what was wrong.

“Nothing,” I said. “It’s just…” He stared at me, his eyes intense.

“Just say it, you’re going to have to trust me anyway.” There was a sparkle in his hazel eyes.

I took a deep breath. “It sounds as if you are sorry that I’m on your team.”

He shook his head while a slight smile played around his lips. “Of course not, why would I have stolen you if I didn’t want you?” He seemed to realize what it sounded like, at the exact same moment as I did. “If I didn’t want you on my team.” He added, laughing.

I smiled back at him. “I was wondering the same thing.”

He put his foot down and leaned over, his elbows resting on his knees. “Listen Ly, you’re a good singer, you’re just not where you have to be yet. I…”

“But why did you steal me then?” I asked uncomprehending.

“I was going to tell you that.” he said amused. His voice became softer as he said: “I saw, or heard, for that matter, something in you that I felt I could work with. I have to admit it is a risk, but I want to go for it for one hundred percent.”

I was blushing by now. I had a hard time taking my eyes of off Adam’s face.

“Okay,” I finally answered. “Is that why it took you so long to push the damn button?” I asked, smiling.

He shook his head while he sat back up. “No, I thought I’d surprise you with a bit more impact.”

I fell back against the back of the chair. “Great.”

Adam chuckled. “So, let’s say that you pick a song for the knock-out rounds tonight. Then you can come over here tomorrow, so we can already start practicing.”

I nodded my head for what must have been the fiftieth time that day. I had no idea yet which song to pick. I rested my head on the back of the chair. I was glad I was still in the running to become The Voice, but I also was very happy that this day was over. Especially the kicking out of Blake’s team and the long postponed push on the button had gotten me exhausted. I closed my eyes for a moment and almost drifted away.

“Eh, Ly?” I heard a voice far away saying.

“Ly?” The voice came closer.

“Ly! If you really want to sleep, go lay on the couch.” I was awake now. Adam towered over me. I felt my cheeks turning red. “Sorry, I suddenly got very tired.”

Adam laughed. “I know the feeling. If you want to take a nap, the couch is yours.” He pointed at the sofa mindlessly.

“Are you leaving?” I asked.

“Yeah, I have some appointments I have to get to.” he said. “I’ll see you tomorrow.” I waved at him while he walked out of the door and decided to not take a nap. I would just drive home and sleep there.

When I got home I immediately took a shower and had a discussion in my mind about what song I had to sing at the knock-out round. I really had no idea and decided to let the topic rest for a moment while I put on sweatpants and a tank-top. I would let my hair dry itself and walked over to the living room where I threw myself on the coach, not wanting to ever leave it again. I fell asleep quickly, and when I woke up, I knew exactly what song I was going to perform.
