Spain was afraid of the Inquisition. He was afraid his people would look at his past, still consider him a Pagan or a Moor, and then not want him. In the years that followed, he dedicated himself to Catholicism and did everything for his people so they would accept him. In his eagerness, he went far and did great things. But also went too far and did horrible things.
