Sylvia Likens and her sister Jenny were looking for a place to stay in July 1965. Their parents were carnival workers and were about to go on a tour so they were looking for a place for their daughters to stay. Soon enough a woman by the name of Gertrude Baniszewski offered to take the girls in with her seven children for only $20 a week. The girl's father Lester agreed and the girls were gonna be stating there until the end of October. Little did they know Sylvia wouldn't make it out alive. Gertrude had seven kids: Paula, Stephanie, Shirley, Marie, Jimmy, John, and Dennis Jr.. Sylvia and Paula were quick friends. But it didn't last long.
