Tears continued to stream down my face.
"Y-your brother?" he sounded confused. It's too late, I thought. I can't hide my past as much as I try to. I had to tell Yata. If I don't it would slowly eat me alive.
"I-I was left on the door steps one night of Smiles Orphanage. The director found me with a letter that had my name and birthday. She took me in and rises me with the rest of the kids that were left there too. When I was older a new boy came. His name was Kei. He was six years older than me. He used to spend time in the corner when the other kids played. One day I decided to go up to him. I smiled as I held my hand out and asked him if he wanted to play with me. He smiled back and took my hand. From that day on we did everything together, you could say we were like brother and sister. Kei had been in the orphanage for a year, when a sweet couple adopted him. He was in his room..." I recalled the memory.
I run into Kei's room.
"Where are you going, big brother?" I asked. I had noticed a small brown beaten up suit case.
"I have a new home now." he said like it was the best thing on Earth.
"But, I thought I was your family, remember?" I asked sadly.
"You were, but I have a new one." he smiled. I had an awful feeling deep down in the pit of my stomach. He zipped up his suit case and headed for the door.
"No!" I blocked the doorway. "You're my only family I have and now you're being taken away from me!"
"Why can't you be happy for me?" he frowned. I didn't answer. What could I say? He sighed. "I have to go Akene."
He shoved past me. Angrier boiled in me.
"I HATE YOU!" I shouted. Tears of anger filled my eyes.
"You don't mean that." he said like it was a joke, but he didn't sound sure. He turned and walked closer to me. He had a hurt expression on his face. He held his hand out to pat me on the shoulder.
"Don't touch me!" I backed up. "I wish you were dead!"
A thud made my eyes snap open. Kei laid on the floor with his suit case inches out of his reach. I stared at him in shock. I snapped out of my state of shock. I hurried over to him to checked if he was breathing. Nothing. What did I do! I thought."Akene, what was th-" she gasped at Kei's body. "I'll call 911!"
She sprinted down the stairs. I cradled Kei in my small arms as I waited for the ambulance.
"No one suspected me, but after that day on, no one wanted or ever tried to adopt me." I finished my flash back. Tears ran faster down my cheeks. Yata was speechless. He probably hates me now. We sat in silence, the only sound to be heard was me sniffing every now and then. Suddenly, I felt a warm strong set of arms embrace me and pull me closer. I was taken back. I returned the hug. I rest my head on Yata's shoulder. Salty tears soaked his sweatshirt.
"HOMRA's your new family. We will always be there for you. I will always be there for you." Yata cooed in my ear as he combed his fingers through my long purple hair. I slowly drifted off to sleep in Yata's embrace.
P.O.V Yata
Akene fell asleep in my arms again. I carefully laid her down and cover her with the sheets. She smiled. I took a pillow and a blanket from the closest and headed to the couch. Tomorrow I will help Akene.
