P.O.V Akene
I woke up to the smell of pancakes and bacon. I slowly lifted myself out of bed. I rubbed my back, it was killing me. I painfully made my way to the bathroom. I checked the mirror. My eyes were red and puffy. What happened last night? I wondered. I shrugged and changed out of the clothes that I had slept in. I picked out a white t-shirt and a soft baggy pair of grey sweats. I yawned and headed for the kitchen. As I made my way there I noticed that my couch had a used blanket and pillow on it. I was confused at first then everything that happened last night came rushing back at me. I continued to make my way to the kitchen."Hey. Akene do you have syrup?" Yata asked as he flipped the pancakes.
"Yeah, in the pantry." I scratched the back of my head. I took a sit at the table.
"There you go." Yata set in front of me a tower of pancakes with a hand full of bacon. I waited for him to sit down before I began to eat. He sat down with his plate full of food. Finally, I thought as I dug in.
"Hungry?" Yata chuckled. I rolled my eyes and continued to stuff my face. "You remember what you told me last night. Well, I did some digging around and found some interesting information."
He pulled up some articles on his watch and widened the screen. He clicked on the the first one.
"Smilies Orphanage. Boy found died?" the head line read. " A boy named Kei was found passed out on the floor of the orphanage. The director says that she heard a thug and ran as fast as she could to find out what it was. A little girl that was with him told the director that he just suddenly fell. Kei was immediately rushed to the emergency room."
"Yata this just proves that I killed him." I said, getting pissed off.
"I know, I know, but just hear me out." Yata changed the article.
"Orphan as a boy. Winning the Noble Peace Prize as a man." the new head line read. "Kei grow up in Smilies Orphanaga. As a child he had to be rushed to the emergency room. They checked his body, but there was no sign of what caused his sudden black out. They just found a bracelet. They tried to cut it off, but it couldn't come off. Soon Kei went into coma. They were about to pull the plug, but some how he woke up. The doctors said he wake up shouting the name Akene. From that day on Kei committed his life to helping children in need. He is a world known scientist and doctor. He has found many cures for several deadly viruses. For this he was given the Noble Peace Prize. His wife and their two kids have been there for him every step of the way. "I knew a girl when I was in the orphanage that taught me about the impotents of family." Kei told the article."
I couldn't believe what I read.
"H-he's alive?" I stuttered. I felt so relieved. There was more to read.
"Kei also said that he doesn't believe in magic or witchcraft, but he thinks that the bracelet he has had with him since he was in coma is his good luck charm." there was a picture of Kei with the Noble Peace Prize around his neck and him showing off his bracelet.
"That looks a lot like your bracelets." Yata said. "How did he get one of those?"
I looked closer at the bracelet. It was one of mine. But how did that get there?" I thought for a moment. Then a flash back hit me.
I cradled Kei's body in my small arms.
"I'm so sorry. I didn't mean what I said." I whispered in his ear like he could hear me. I began to weep. I took one of my bracelets off and carefully put it on his wrist. "Please, please, come back."
"Akene." I looked down at him, but he didn't say anything. It was the director. "The ambulance is here."
"I want to go with him." I said.
"No, you have to stay there." she ordered. The paramedics came running in. They pulled Kei out of my arms.
"No!" I screamed. The director hurried over to hold me back. They put him on a gurney. "I want to be there when he wakes up!"
"You are going nowhere." she held me tighter. I kicked and punched trying to get out of her arms. "STOP AKENE, KEI IS DEID!"
They started to roll him out.
"NO, HE'S NOT!" I shouted. The director had enough of me. She raised her hand and slapped me across my cheek. I stopped moving in her arms. I was frozen. I watched as the gurney with Kei strapped on it was rolled out of the room. "KEI!"
I fell out of the director's arms and laid on the floor. She got up and followed the gurney. I was all along. I curled myself in a ball and cried myself to sleep.
The flash back ended. I told Yata about it.
"But, how could I forget about that?" I asked him.
"Maybe you blocked that part out." he guessed. Maybe, I thought.
"Those bracelets of yours have some kind of magic or something." Yata said looking at my wrist full of bracelets.
"That's ridiculous." I said.
"That's what I thought too." Yata said. "Until I saw this article."
"Little girl saves old woman from an on coming car." was the head line.
"Wait is this todays news." I read the date when it was published. Yata nodded. I went back to reading it.
"A little girl from Smilies Orphanage save an older woman from a car. The little girl said that she was just walking back from school when an old woman wasn't looking and began to cross the road. A car was coming at full speed. The little girl didn't hesitation. She jumped in between the car and woman. Apparently, the drive was on his phone texting. He looked up to see if he was in the right city. When he saw the little girl, he hit on the brakes and skid to a stop. Inches away from hitting the two."
Yata played the video that went with the article.
"You must be a very brave little girl." said a man with a microphone. He was talking to the girl. She had blond hair and brown puppy dog eyes. I know that girl. She was the one that was crying when I left the orphanage.
"Yes, I am and it's all thanks to this bracelet." she showed a bracelet that looked like the one Kei and I had.
"I gave that to her before I left the orphanage. I told her to never stop being..." my eyes widened.
"Never stop being what?" Yata asked. He wondered why I had stopped mid-sentence.
"To never stop being brave." I finished the sentence. Yata's eyes grew bigger too.
"That just proves it. Your bracelets are magical." Yata said.
"Yeah, they are." I agreed.
"I was wondering why you gave Jun one of your bracelets." he said.
"You saw that?" I blushed a little.
"Yeah." he said. There was silence for awhile.
"Thank you." I finally said. "For being there for me."
"Enhh, it was nothing." Yata blushed and rubbed the back of his neck. "Well, I got to know you."
"I'm happy at least one person does" I shrugged. I leaned in and kissed him on his cheek. He grew red as a tomato. I chucked and grabbed his beanie off of his head.
"Hey!" he shouted.
"Come and get it!" I shouted back as I ran out of the apartment. He chuckled and ran out to catch me. Thank you Yata.
