FLASHBACK
What Katherine explained to Caroline was that her feelings were heightened. Sadness became depression, happy became ecstatic, love became desire. All the things that Katherine said was right, Caroline had her feelings consume her and Katherine saw the perfect opportunity to offer a way out for Caroline.
Katherine took the blonde converted vampire to a meeting point they had with E.M. Caroline would ask who they were that they were meeting and Katherine always referred to the person as E.M. The days following her transformation, Peggy and Howard noticed her different personality. Noting that everything she once felt was suddenly amplified and that the sadness she felt was 100 times worse than it was a couple days ago. Not to mention that Caroline didn't even tell her friends of her little trip which she would have to answer for when she got back.
"I still don't get everything? What exactly is EM going to do?"
"What you're seeking is an end to your pain, correct?" Katherine cocked her head to the side waiting for Caroline's answer.
"Is there an end to the pain?" Caroline innocently asked Katherine, grabbing a hold of her hand which she instantly took back. Katherine fixed her hair and checked her makeup before answering Caroline's question.
"There's an end to everything and that's what we're going to find."
The road never seemed to end which made Caroline wonder if they were still in New York anymore. With the landscape, she could assume that they were probably in Long Island. Her mind wandered knowing that if the pain could cease, what would Steve think?
In his final moments, he made her promise to be happy and live her life. But is remembering the pain the way to truly live? All Caroline wanted was the pain to be gone because she knew that with every passing day, it was getting worse. Howard wouldn't put up with Caroline's hopes any longer and it would soon drive him insane. She didn't want to see herself in a suffering state anymore and she didn't want her friends to fight any longer.
The moment they got there Caroline couldn't imagine why EM choose this place to meet. Or even why Katherine wouldn't tell her what the way out was. Both of the ladies stood in the night, under the trees and stars, waiting for their special friend to arrive.
With a fatal swoosh, a dark figure appeared in a quite nice tux which made Caroline believe that the figure was a type of lawyer. Katherine instantly took the man aside and discussed with him personally before getting to the reason why they were meeting.
The two tried to whisper but with the hearing, Caroline could perfectly hear them bickering which reminder her of Peggy and Howard.
"Katerina, how dare you see this woman's suffering as a way to increase your agenda."
"Elijah, I'm simply helping her out. Or haven't you realized that she's in pain and I offered her a way out."
"A way out? By taking away her compassion? It's not something you would understand because our compassion is a gift."
"Elijah, you might see this as a way for me to benefit but I can assure you that I want to help her."
"Katerina, there is something different about her and if this is one of you schemes, trust me that the last thing on your mind would be this girl. You might think that she won't make it far but I can assure you that like you, she's looks like a survivor." The man called Elijah finished with him getting closer to Caroline and extending his hand out to greet.
"Elijah Mikaelson,"
"Caroline Kingsley."
"As Katerina has informed me, you want to cease your pain?"
"She hasn't exactly told me everything about it but yes. I want the pain to end."
"What exactly are you asking for?"
"She wants her memories of her precious lover gone..." Katherine whispered loudly in his ear with Elijah having a eerie look on his face knowing that Caroline didn't know.
"Is this what you truly want? Perhaps you should think this over and don't like Katerina wash over what you really want."
Caroline took a moment and couldn't help but feel of what Peggy and Howard would think when she comes back and she doesn't remember what unconditional love she had for Steve.
"Do any of you have a piece of paper and a pen?"
Katherine huffed as she hopped into the truck and looked in the glove compartment for a extra piece of paper. Elijah offered Caroline the pen with Katherine handing her the paper as she quickly wrote down what she was doing and informing Peggy and Howard to respect her decision. She showed the paper into the back of her pants before giving Elijah her answer, "Yes."
"Whatever it takes to make the pain go away." Elijah doubted her decision for a second before taking into account that Caroline was feeling a lot more than normal humans.
"Let's begin, shall we?"
