Chapter 8

Perrie's POV

I was lying on the couch with the girls, it was now 15 minutes to midnight. I tried to pay attention to the movie that we were watching but my mind just kept wandering off.

It wasn't that I would think he wasn't worthy enough if he didn't appear, a small part of me just wanted to see him really, another just wanted to see if he would turn up for me and the other to show the girls why I think Zayn's perfect.

I kept telling myself in my head, "he would come, he would come." But as the hours passed by and the minute hand ticked nearer and nearer to midnight, I couldn't help but to start doubting.

"Ten more minutes for mr perfect to come!" Jade taunted. She had been teasing me for the past few hours, but she said she was almost certain he would be here.

If he would be he should have been here hours ago, wouldn't he? It definitely doesn't take a whole day to go to the hospital. I started letting my thoughts run wild when a knock on the door interrupted my thoughts.

My ears pricked up as I jumped off the couch and swung the door open. I was standing a few centimeters from the face that I wanted to see so badly, he leaned against the door as if for support.

"You came." I stated the obvious and slapped myself mentally in my head.

He gave me a half crooked weak smile and blinked slowly, he looked like he was about to faint. Before I knew it, he was on the ground.

"Oh my gosh Zayn! Oh my gosh! What happened!!" I jumped to his side and bent down beside him to lift his head up.

"Oh dear." I heard a low voice behind me and looked up to see Paul hovering above me. He bent down and scooped Zayn up as if he weigh nothing. "I told him I'll carry him in, but he refused. Barely stood for five seconds and he's on the ground. Hi Perrie."

"Erm hi Paul?" It sounded more like a question than a greeting. What was Paul doing here and what was he talking about?

"Where's the bed? I'll put him down to rest."

"Erm, upstairs. I'll take you there." I said as I motioned towards my room. "What.. What happened to Zayn?" I was utterly frightened.

"He was.."

"Robbed. Met some robbers on my way here." Zayn's voice croaked, cutting Paul off.

"I thought you said you were.."

"Robbed!" Zayn insisted weakly and breathlessly.

Paul placed Zayn down on the bed. "Ok. I've gotta go back to the police station to ensure that... To, er to make a police report." Paul stuttered.

"Don't Zayn need to be there to make a report?" Sixth sense told me they were hiding something, again.

"Erm no. No, I... I don't think so. I'll give Zayn a call if I need anything. Bye Zayn, bye Perrie." Paul quickly took his leave, obviously glad to be out of here.

I turned on the lights and realized I didn't notice how badly beaten up he was. His face was far much worse than it was this morning. His lips cracked, there were blood and bruises.

He was clutching his stomach in pain so I gently lifted up his shirt and gasped at the sight that greeted me. There were purple splotches, roughly the size of a fist. It was plastered all over his stomach and chest, it was so horribly gory to look at and I couldn't bring myself to take a second glance, I was stricken into silence.

Zayn's POV

Before I knew it, Perrie lifted up my shirt to reveal the unsightly bruises. Shock was written all over her face as she looked at my bruises with a stare of horror. I quickly pulled down my shirt to cover the ugly bruises.

"Who did this to you?" She whispered, her face covered by a ghastly whiteness.

"The robbers." I lied. "It's nothing babe, I'll be fine in a matter of days."

She looked straight ahead, deep in thought. Her expression was unreadable, that moment I wished if only I could read minds. Panic engulfed me, she couldn't possibly have guessed that I was lying could she? "Babe?" I called after a long moment of silence.

She suddenly sprung up from the bed. "You can't stay like this." She stated. "I'm going out to buy medication for you."

I jolted upright. "No!" I protested. "It's late, don't go out."

"I'll be fine."

I grabbed her elbow tightly, not allowing her to budge. It just wasn't safe outside. "Listen to me. I don't need any medication."

"You're crazy. Take a look at yourself Zayn! Look at the damage the robbers did to you! Or were they even robbers in the first place?!"

"Wha... What?" She was one detective, but then again, she was my girlfriend so she should have known when I was lying and when I wasn't.

"I know you weren't robbed Zayn. The story... It just doesn't match up. First of all there's no way that you actually got robbed for so many hours. Secondly, I spotted your phone and wallet still with you. Thirdly, you and Paul are not actors for a reason. Lastly... Lastly, I'm your girlfriend, you really think you could have fooled me?" Her volume dropped to a whisper at the last sentence.

"I... I'm.. I'm sorry."

"Who did this to you Zayn, please please tell me, please." She pleaded desperately.

I closed my eyes and leaned my head back on the bed frame, letting out a loud sigh. Taking in a deep breath, I muttered "Adam".

She sucked in her breath. "Wha.. What? I thought... I thought he was arrested?"

"Not that night. He left before Paul came, broke through the back door. Paul got it fixed that's why when you came it was fixed. The two days you were here alone Paul actually stationed two bodyguards outside, so you were completely safe. Tonight Adam got taken into custody already, I'm sure he will be locked up. That's why I took so long to come, I'm sorry. You're safe, he's locked up now. Even if he wasn't I'll protect you. Don't worry, he's in jail, he can't hurt you anymore."

"That's not what I'm worried about Zayn, I'm not worried for myself. Just look at what he's done to you. What happened?"

"I... I was on the way home from the hositpal... When I suddenly felt myself being dragged into an alley. Adam started... Throwing punches at me. I didn't fight back, because..." I paused, I flinching at the memory that replayed in my mind. I would be lying if I said I wasn't frightened, if I said Adam didnt scare me, if I didn't fear for my life.

"Because I told you that I didn't like you fighting and it scared me when you were fighting." Perrie finished off for me. I sighed and nodded my head. "What's wrong with you! It's common sense to fight back! Don't you know he could have killed you then?!"

"I didn't want to make you upset"

"Upset?! Don't you know I'm more upset seeing you beaten up into a pulp or almost getting killed by Adam?!" She cried, on the verge of tears.

"Pez... Please don't cry. I hate it when I make you cry I'm so sorry."

"Stop apologizing, just stop. It's my fault you're beaten up like this." She wrapped my battered body in her arms and lightly rested her head on my shoulder, careful not to cause me any pain. I grabbed her whole body to my chest tight, ignoring the throbbing pain.
