Chapter 16
Zayn's POV
Today was the day. The day I had been dreading for a week. The day I met Perrie's family. The boys had found it a joke that I was fretting out over something so customary such as meet the parents but truth be told, I've never met any of my girlfriend's parents.
None of my relationship had been able to develop to such a serious stage that we decided it was time to introduce each other's family.
Of course, I was elated because it only meant that Perrie and my relationship was going stronger than ever, yet I was worried about the mess that would be caused if any of her family member were to disapprove of me.
I picked up my phone and dialed Louis' number, who's had his fair share of dealing with the female's parents. I still recalled when he was courting Eleanor he had called up Eleanor's mum to assure her that he was not like any pop star. He was not those type of pop star you read about on the news, that gets in and out of relationships and plays with every girls' heart.
"Hey bro!" Lou greeted as he picked up after a few rings.
"Lou! SOS I need help! What do I wear to Perrie's house? Do style up my hair or do I just leave down?"
"Zayn, man you need to chill. I'm here to help. First of all, go to your T-shirt section. Chose something casual and informal, chose something brightly coloured to make yourself seem more friendly. You know what, just wear that striped tee that I bought you for your birthday. I'm pretty upset though, on the mention of it I realize that I've never seen you wear that shirt before. Now you better wear that it's a decent shirt, plus it'll look good on you. It's the only time I'm allowing you to wear stripes. As for your hair, did you really have to ask? Of course style it up! Our stunning Mr Zayn Malik is nothing without his huge quiff, plus your future mother in law added that blond streak in your hair, wouldn't want to upset her by covering it up would you Zayn?"
I chuckled, that's my man. He knew everything when it comes to being a good boyfriend. "Thanks man, appreciate it. I better get ready."
"Yeah put some mascara or eye shadow, enhance that brown eyes of yours."
I gasped and panicked. "No kidding bro? Eye shadow and mascara? I don't have any! Unless I use Perrie's which she left behind?!"
"Zayn Zayn, my man. I was just kidding."
I huffed. "Not the right time Lou."
I heard's Louis' chuckling at the other end of the line. "Clearly not. All the best Zayn, just be yourself."
"Thanks mate. I have to go pick Perrie now."
So here I was, clad in Louis' T shirt and my hair style up in its famous quiff. I gripped tightly onto Perrie's hand as she knocked thrice on the door and it swung open to reveal her mum, with a cheerful expression worn on her face, welcoming us in.
"Come in Perrie, hello Zayn, it's nice to meet you again."
"Hi Mrs Edwards, thank you for inviting me to visit."
"Mr Malik please cut with the formalities I have told you the previous time to call me Debbie! Call me Mrs Edwards one more time and you'll spend the rest of the night on the porch."
I felt the mood lighten a little and I started to relax. "Yes Debbie."
"Much better, come on in. Jonnie and Katherine are already here."
Suddenly, I felt all the little calmness I had in me vanish into thin air with a dramatic "voosh". Here goes nothing I guess. I stepped into the living room and saw the back of Jonnie and Katerine on the couch, their eyes glued to the television.
"Hey kid! hey Katherine!" Perrie greeted as the two turned their heads and broke into a wide smile when they caught sight of her.
Jonnie took a quick glance at me when he was hugging Perrie and I was literally trembling in my pants, I just had to put up a straight front.
"So, we finally meet." his voice alone managed to leave me frightened.
"Hi, I'm Zayn." I stretched out my hand trying to be polite.
He ignored my handshake and stated "Of course I know you're Zayn." he replied coldly.
I left my hand to waver and decided that he hand no intention of shaking it so I dropped it. However, he grabbed my hand mid-way and crushed it with a tight handshake. "I was just kidding kid, no need to look so worried." He chuckled.
"Aww kid don't tease him, he's already really worried." Perrie told her brother, making me more embarrassed than I already was while her brother gave me a smirk.
"Don't worry," he assured. "I was just kidding. The next time you'll see me like that or worse is only when you break my sister's heart."
I forced a stiff smile and Perrie slapped his arm, I really felt like I could just pee in my pants right now. Even performing in front of thousands didn't frighten me that much.
Just then, Debbie hassled in and ordered us to set the table or we would have to eat cold dinner.
Dinner was pleasant and we had loads of laughs, we had a scrumptious and delicious meal that Debbie had single handed cooked up herself. We started chatting amongst ourselves, getting to know each other better and I honestly felt like I did fit in with Perrie's family.
Perrie was right, her brother was really cool and really fun to talk to. When the ladies cleared the tables and helped Debbie with the dishes, I followed Jonnie out to the living room and we sat on the couch.
"In case you're wondering this isn't going to be like those type of protective warning talk that older brother gives to their sister's boyfriend. I'm just telling you to treat her well and she can really be an annoying hassle sometimes but she's one to love."
"I'm clearly aware of that. I won't mistreat her, I promise." even though it sounded like just any assurance, but I had made that promise with every single intention of fulfilling it. Perrie and Katherine then came into the living room. "What are you guys talking about?" Katherine, whom I've met at the Olympics asked.
"Nothing, just some men talk." Jonnie replied, making the girls scoff.
"Wanna take a look at some childhood pictures?" Debbie suggested and I eagerly nodded my head.
"No!" Perrie protested immediately and shook her head vigorously.
"I'll get the photo albums!" Jonnie announced as I heard him leave the room and Perrie grunting in her seat.
Time flew really quick, by the time we were done glancing through the pictures in the album it was time for Perrie and I to leave.
"Hey, let's get pictures!" Perrie cried leaping out of the sofa and whipping out her phone. "First up Zayn and Jonnie." Jonnie and I ended up posing with fist, but a playful smile tugged on our lips.
"Wasn't that bad after all was it?" Perrie asked as we left the house, hand in hand.
"Nope, not at all. I had fun." I admitted.
"Good. Perfect. Awesomeeeee!" Perriee exclaimed with each word getting an octave higher. I chucked as I led her to the car to continue our journey back home.
When I was home, Perrie showed me that Jonnie had tweeted the picture of us, and so had Katherine. They had already asked me for permission to tweet those photos before I left, so I wasn't really surprised to see their tweets. However, I was interested to see their caption.
"@jonnieedwards: What's all the fuss! @zaynmalik aha!pic.twitter.com/ZXTyEslt "
" @katheeerine: Lovely Guy :) @zaynmalik pic.twitter.com/u3g0bXpk "
I felt myself let out a sigh of relief knowing that the people important to Perrie had approved of me, I guess that meeting had gone pretty smoothly.
We immediately fell into deep slumber the moment our heads touched the pillow because of the long car ride that wore us out. We had a long day tomorrow, Perrie would have her rehearsal for the teen choice's award the following day and I would be hosting a radio programme with Scott Mills.
I wasn't really sure of what to expect though, all I knew was that it was around four hours of hosting and that I'll be giving a call to a celebrity for an interview just like how we were always interviewed on radio. The only difference is this time I'm the interviewer.
I also know that Louis had chosen Perrie to call, I was looking forward to listening to that one. I really wished I could have been the one but it would have cost too much to try.
~
"Zayn! Have fun, I'll try to listen in as much as I can!" Harry called when I went into the radio station. He had just finished his hosting with Grimmy and now it was my turn.
I had already prepared a list of songs that I was going to play and of course I had to include our own plus one from Little Mix.
Scott Mills and I played a game of innuendo bingo, which I had to admit I found quite disgusting. I was glad we played it at the end so that I could go home to get changed.
Before I knew it, it was Louis' turn to host the show and I was on my way home. I tuned in to the radio when I was home and Louis' interview with Perrie came on."Alright, you ready love?" I heard Louis asked.
"Yeah, I'm ready."
"Right. Uh, did you listen to Zayn earlier with Scott?" I felt a smile unconsciously made it way up my face when I heard my name being mentioned.
"Uh, no." Perrie let out an awkward reply and I laughed to myself while preparing a cup of tea.
"N-no?" Louis asked in disbelief.
"I've been on stage!" Perrie defended herself.
"Yeah, but babe, c'mon."
"What? What I just whipped mi phone out when I'm on stage and listen?" I chuckled to myself and settled on the couch.
"Well yes yes."
"Well I'm sorry Louis."
"Have you listened to any of our stuff, me and Greg?"
"Uh, noo." Perrie replied with a slight tinge of guilt and awkwardness.
"No? This isn't a good start to this interview Perrie?"
"Well, this is awkward.
The both of them then chatted about Leigh-Ann's birthday. Perrie got me to pull some strings and ask Justin to record a birthday message for Leigh-Ann knowing that she was a huge fan of his.
"The boys hang out with the girls quite alot." Greg stated.
"Yes." Louis confirmed.
"Perrie stayed at your house, or you stayed at Perrie house?"
"No no no, Perrie and Zayn stayed at my house."
"Oh ok, were they good house guests? What were they like?"
"Yeah, it was, it was great. We had the lads round, Perrie was round as well. It was, it was really nice. I woke up the next morning to go to work really early in the morning and I came back in to find my house spotless. She, Perrie had tidied everything up, didn't you love?"
"Yes I did. I felt really guilty."
"Bless her. Ain't that nice?"
"Are you really really messy Perrie, is that why?"
"No, um, no it's because I felt really bad that he had to go to work really early and he was going to come home and his house is a pig sty. I got a little clean and then I got a little carried away."
I recalled the day before that we just had Perrie's birthday surprise for her at Louis' house and she was commenting on how messy Louis' house was and he told me that Perrie had cleaned the house up when we left for work.
It was really heartwarming to know that my band mates and Perrie got on really well. Perrie and Louis did get on really very well, they had slightly a like brother and sister relationship which was really cute.
Just then, I heard my alert go off and saw that management had sent us the schedule for tomorrow's teen awards which was the biggest talk right now. I was wishing that we would win the Best British Single award because it would be really cool as Little Mix would be performing right after that. Tomorrow we would also be having a half an hour long performance, like a little concert. I was stoked and absolutely excited for tomorrow.
