Youngji sat by the window in the library. She was cozying up in the red velvet couch. She gazed into the view from the window, water dropping and seeping into the soil. It was the perfect weather to contemplate her life.
Youngji rested her head on the couch and gazed beyond the view. Her mind was transporting her back into the past.
Youngji was 6 years old, young but was capable of differentiating right from wrong. She was hiding behind a wall, eavesdropping on her father's conversation with her mother.
"Su Jung, I know I shouldn't do this to you but I have no choice. I have to leave you and the kids. You know how my mother is like."
Youngji's mother was tearing up. "Do what you have to do. But are you sure you can't convince her that this is morally wrong? The kids would be so torn to know that you're abandoning them."
"I am not..."
Youngji heard it clearly. Their father was abandoning them. She ran towards Jackson's room. She twisted the knob to his door softly.
"Oppa?"
"Whats wrong Youngji? You don't look so good." Jackson probed.
"Is it true? That Papa is leaving us?" Her voice cracked.
Jackson's face stiffened.
"How did you find out? Come here."
Jackson hugged his sister who was now crying.
"He's leaving all of us for another woman Youngji. He doesn't want us. Soon he'll have his own family and he will forget our existence. But its okay. As long as we're together, the three of us, we'll be just fine. We don't need him, Youngji. You should know that Mama and I will always love you no matter what."
Youngji sniffled and nodded into her brother's shoulder.
Youngji smiled to herself. Although her brother could seem childish at times, she knew that he was indeed reliable. Her smile disappeared as she thought of that man who abandoned his family. How irresponsible of him. He may have given them money but no amount could account for his absence as a father and husband.
"His plight now is just a 'reward' for his sin. You don't deserve forgiveness." Youngji whispered to herself.
"Who?" Someone invaded Youngji's thoughts.
Youngji looked up to see Dongwoon. He gestured to the space on the couch and Youngji nodded in agreement. He sat down.
"Nobody you need to know about." Youngji replied.
"I'll respect your privacy." Dongwoon smiled charmingly.
Such a gentleman. Youngji thought.
"Nice weather to be cozying up huh?"
"Yeah definitely. How are you these days? Any stories to share?" Dongwoon winked.
"Not really. Just family stuff which I would prefer to keep to myself. Well apart from that, you do know that I finally got together with my first love? You met him before outside the school and once at the restaurant."
"Oh yeah. I do remember." Dongwoon chuckled.
"What about you? Anything you want to get off your chest?"
"Well, not really but right now, I'm just wishing for a cup of hot chocolate to appear." Dongwoon smiled dreamily into empty space.
Youngji slapped his thigh in a playful manner. "You're all about your sweet stuff huh. The other time with sweets and now hot chocolate."
"Yeah I'm totally into sweet stuff. Like you." He winked.
Youngji scoffed. Is he trying to flirt? Well he's definitely bad at it.
"What? Was that too cheesy?" Dongwoon grinned goofily.
Youngji tightened her jaw and nodded.
Dongwoon raised his eyebrows and laughed it off.
"Sorry then."
