"Miss Tanner, you're free to-"
That's all I heard from Mrs. Bennett before I walked out of detention. I don't have time for detention, I have homework to do and a paradise hunt to get my shit together for.
Maybe.
I walk over to my car and see the new art boy getting into his, my stomach plunges and for the first time in a while, I feel guilty. So I stroll over to his shitty little Toyota and slam his door shut before he gets in.
"Look new boy, I'm sorry I lost it on you in art. You don't know what it's like to lose someone like Violet. I'm not asking for pity, I just feel like a douche so, hope you enjoyed your principal-mandated-apology.
It wasn't actually principal mandated, I just didn't want him to get the idea that 1) I'm nice, or 2) we may have a chance at friendship. Because I don't want to be his friend, at all. I've only ever had Vi. And now she's gone, so I will only ever have Vi. Technically.

She looks beautiful, in her sparkly prom dress finishing her hair as she sits across from me in my room. Our dates are probably on their way, but I wouldn't care if they got lost somewhere between here and Minnesota because, Violet is a masterpiece. One I would never get to touch though. She's Mona Lisa, and I'm an innocent homeless man. On the same planet but, galaxies away.
She looks over at me with her curling wand in hand and smiles.
"Dana would you please come curl this piece for me?"
I sit behind her and go to grab the curling iron when she grabs my chin and presses my lips to hers. She is my person, and I never want this feeling to end. I push my fingers through her almost finished hair as she pulls me closer by my waist. She pulls away and presses her lips to my collar bone.
She just picks the curling iron back up and proceeds to get ready for prom without a word.
That was that.
__________________________I walk away from the new boy and hop into my car. Satisfied with myself for lying so smoothly. Violet would be proud. Maybe she still is, who knows.
She held so much power over me. Hell, she still does, I'm going to look for Never tomorrow night.
Even if she's not proud, she's my person. Well, at least, she was.
