"It's a week's ride into Garland-- I need to get a Harper eagle to message my Queen, then head down through the SoutherLands, to the borders and straight into Garland." she counted on her fingers.
Wolfe tugged at the armor and tunics he now wore. "How long have you been a courier?" he asked, loosening his collar. The buttons snapped open and he was greet with a small breeze on his throat and breast bone.
Phoenix glanced over her shoulder at him, the horses moving at a slow canter. "....Four... Almost five years. But I haven't been to garland in almost eight." she looked forward, one hand gripping the reigns as the other lay across her lap.
"...Are you current in all the politics surrounding Grengal?" he asked. He had gone through the saddle bags and found maps and changes of clothes, along with supplies and food for the horses themselves. He reached in one and pulled out a rolled up scroll of parchment.
Phoenix held out her free hand and received the scroll. She unrolled it, and looked at the designs. A map, written in the central nations dialect, easy to read and understand. She frowned and let out an angry yowl. "That's against all of Deveron's Treaties! He should be encroaching that far West!"
"By the looks of it,most, if not all of that Area is now under Grengal's reign." Wolfe said, riding side by side now.
Phoenix crinkled and nearly tore the papers to bits. She threw them at Wolfe, and he rerolled them. He tucked them away, watching her quietly.
She pulled the black and green hood, her face hidden.
"He could be lying you know." Wolfe said carefully. "Just to see you hurt... It didn't seem blood was good between you."
"When we were children, we would fight." Phoenix said simply. "At some point, I was supposed to marry him. His father pushed for it, my mother and grandmother didn't want such a union. Even if we were distantly related, it didn't settle well with my grandmother or grandfather."
Wolfe perked a brow. "And the... bottled fire?"
"Phoenix down." she said. "I swear I've said this before... Just feathers from the Great Sunbringer." Phoenix looked at her bandaged hands. They looked like Lyle's work, Snow tied knots. The linen was tucked and sewn with small threads at the ends to keep from slipping. "For a pact, he gives them to me to heal my wounds, keep me safe."
"Destroy your humanity." he chimed offhandedly.
"Eh." she said. "That was lost long long ago." She cocked her head to look at him. "The legends say, the Wolf lives in the Seventh son, born on the seventh day of the seventh month."
Wolfe laughed. "I have one brother, and he's a lycan too. That seven thing is for the ones that are cursed." He grinned, his ivory teeth a deep contrast on his tan skin. "We, are gifted."
"Perhaps you shouldn't hang around such a lost cause such as myself then." Phoenix chuckled. "My humanity being corrupt and such."
Wolfe laughed, his laugh was contagious. Phoenix was laughing too, gripping the reigns tight so she wouldn't fall off the horse.
"I think you can do without the humanity.... Humans are the ones that are so dangerous." he looked forward. "Liars, thieves, murderers, rapists, killing their own for nothing at all." Wolfe's voice was trailing. Phoenix tilted her head to look at him once more. His golden eyes were captivating, like candle lights a blaze in the dark.
The horses moved, as if they were gliding. She barely felt the sway of their canter. "What exactly are you saying?" her words felt thick as syrup.
His ears and teeth looked pointed. "Abandon them." The words echoed. "They abandoned you."
