This morning, I woke up and composed a 90-minute set from 5:50 to 7:20 AM. I thought I was just going to listen to the Bvrnout remix of United We Dance, but I never know when one song is going to make me launch into what I call 'set mode', and this was one of the times I did. When I get into that mindset, my mind is a steady stream of thoughts about what song will come next, and which will sound the best coming on from the current track. I just let my heart lead me wherever it wants and play what sounds right. So I'll basically play a string of songs from Soundcloud and YouTube, imagining the transitions in my mind, and write down the tracklist to keep for future reference. My sets have been getting longer and longer, my latest being 60 minutes, and this is my longest yet. I'm extremely proud of this one. It doesn't stay on the same genre for too long, but it's not scattered and unstable either, and in the end I believe it contains the best mix of genres I've ever had in a set. Not to mention it's basically made up of the sounds that are my favorite kinds for some inexplainable reason, and...I don't exactly know why I love it so much. I just do. Every single transition, I love. All of my sets tend to have some theme musically. This one's full-power, so you'd better have some energy if you're gonna attend it!! These are the notes I took during the set of the tracklist and transition details (if there's no notes on a transition, then it's probably just one from the end of the song to the beginning of the other):
Vicetone - United We Dance (Bvrnout Remix)
DubVision - Turn It Around (Gioni Edit)
Fractal - Duality
Noisestorm - Breakdown VIP
Pegboard Nerds - End Is Near (Fire in the Hole VIP) [2nd buildup->1st drop trans]
Pegboard Nerds vs. Galantis - Emergency vs. Runaway [skip to vocals]
Knife Party - PLUR Police [skip to quiet part]
Aero Chord vs. Pegboard Nerds - Saiko Style! [come in after 1st climax]
Razihel & Aero Chord vs. Grabbitz - Turn the Titans Around [come in before builddown]
Grabbitz - Way Too Deep [skip from 1st climax to ending]
Stonebank - Eagle Eyes (feat. EMEL) [when Way Too Deep goes down to trumpet]
Tristam - Shut Me Down [come in during builddown]
SirensCeol - Unlimited Pancakes
Avicii - Levels (Skrillex Remix) [play half]
Avicii - Levels (Tristam Remix) [play half]
Tristam & Rogue - Flamewar
Skrillex - Bangarang (feat. Sirah) [come in before dubstep-tempo drop]
Skrillex & Damian Marley - Make It Bun Dem (PBN Remix) [come in during quiet part]
Noisestorm - Sentinel
Noisestorm - Heist [come in after 1st Sentinel climax]
Grabbitz - Ballin [come in after 1st Heist climax]
DotEXE - Battle Cry [come in at quiet part after Ballin climaxes] [start to raise BPM at 1:35, continue to raise to drumstep tempo until drop]
Krewella - One Minute (DotEXE Remix) [2nd drop->1st drop trans]I always seem to run out of inspiration after the DotEXE remix of One Minute, but I'm not sure why. I needed to get up then anyway. I'm usually hesitant to give out my set information, because who knows what I'll end up using in the future, but I really want some feedback on this one since it's my favorite and longest so far. I enjoyed playing every bit of this set, which is definitely a bonus. And I was also able to carry out some transitions I've had in my mind for a long time. My favorite sequence is Way Too Deep -> Eagle Eyes -> Shut Me Down. I just really love how that part flowed together and matched up so well. I want to hear what you guys love the most about this and what stands out to you!!
