Nat
Finally, I thought. It took me two hours to get here, and now, I can try and find Cami. Although, the cab-driver had asked for such a large amount of money, I actually thought of luring him under a spell, but I didn't. Not because I was a coward, no, I did it out of mercy. I paid him the fair share, which ended up being most of the money I had brought with me.
I walked up to Caltech's entrance building. And there, for me, was a sweet old woman welcoming me in. "Hello, dear. Is something wrong that you came to see me?" Oh. She thought I was a student. Well, if that was the case, I would play along with it.
I smiled. "Yes. Actually my girlfriend, Cami Ross, is staying in one of the mixed dorms," I frowned, "but I don't seem to know which one."
Her warm smile disappeared. "Is she not staying in the same dorm as you?"
"No, miss. You see, I'm nineteen and Cami's sixteen. She's one of the new students. She thought she was staying in the same dorm as mine, but it turned out different. I want to see her."
"Well, I can fix that for you." She turned her face back to her computer, typing something too fast for me to keep up. For an older woman, she had quick reaction timings. "I'm logging into the new students list." She paused. "What was her name, dear?"
"Cami," I said.
"That is a very nice name. Is it Miss Ross? Camilla?"
"Yes, that's her."
The woman turned the head of the computer to show me an image of Cami. Today, it was taken. "She's a very intelligent and beautiful young woman. You are very lucky," she hesitated. "What..."
"Nat. My name is Nat."
She seemed momentarily shocked that I knew what she was about to ask me. "Well, Nat, your Cami is, I'm afraid, busy right now. She's in a class – though she should be coming out soon." She shook her head. "I do not know why these younger students like to do these things. They frighten me." A little beeper went off a second later. She jumped, I jumped, "Oh, so sorry, Nat. That was my alarm for the night class, finished." She sighed, "Finally, I can go rest. You go on, dear. They're coming out now, if you run, you might bump into her."
I thanked her and she replied with a yawn and a lousy wave, which was probably not her fault. She was right; as I looked out of the windows, there was a large group of kids running away from a building towards one dorm. Great.
I noticed as I came closer, that they were all wearing black. And many of them weren't running or sprinting, but limping. What if Cami was one of those? I couldn't let that happen.
In front of me, there was a tall girl with brown eyes with tints of blue in them and a light-colored hair color. She was laughing whilst looking at the boy next to her, but she wasn't one who was running, and neither were her friends. She was grasping onto a boy who was built to fight, but looked as if he had never even tried to defend himself in his life. He was chuckling and his right arm was gaining closer and closer to the back of her neck.
And then I heard the voice. It was Cami's sweet, innocent voice. She was near, but I couldn't find her. I left the two I had been looking at for a few minutes, to go on their own, even though they had never bothered to glance my way, and walked in the direction of where Cami's voice was coming from. There were two other voices next to her; one boy's and one girl's.
"Hey! I wasn't the one who paralyzed me for five minutes!" The boy's voice was deep, yet a little soothing.
Cami's laugh was full. "You know I had to do it. I wasn't given a choice."
