Nat
We ended up at the back of the jeep, Cami's legs brushing against mine. Her heart was pounding fast and it wasn't long before she grew tired and her head flopped onto my shoulder.
"Where are we going? You still haven't told me."
"Is your girl asleep?" Zed asked, his eyes twinkling in the mirror.
I nodded, "Yeah."
"Good, we'll tell you everything then."
"We're taking you to see the boss." Zed fished out a packet of gum and offered me a strip. I took it.
"Who's your boss? Xavier?"
"God, no," they both laughed and he continued, "you'll find out soon enough."
"Where is he – or she?"
"He – by the way – and, he and all our other fellow associates at the other side of that plane ride." He gestured towards an aircraft waiting on the run way of California's airport – it was a private jet.
"We're flying?"
"We sure ain't walkin' to Vegas."
We drew up alongside to the jet. Zed jumped out first, unlocking the back seats. He went to carry Cami, but I stopped him. "No, I'll take her; it's fine." I protested. I had no intention of letting him touch my girl.
He shrugged. "Suit yourselves." I climbed out and balanced Cami in my arms, hoping she wouldn't wake up until we were flying through the air. Shauna bundled us the short flight of steps and slammed the door behind her. As soon as the jeep was clear, the plane took off almost immediately, heading north.
Cami woke up fifteen minutes later. She groaned, stirring a little before her eyes shot open and she frantically moved around. I calmed her down and took the sides of her face in my palms. "Hush, Cami, you're alright. I'm here, everything's okay."
"No, it's not!" She was fully awake now. "We're flying away from California, for God's sake! This is not okay! What're we even doing up here?"
"Cami, listen to me. Shauna and Zed are taking us to see their boss. We're safe. They're not going to hurt us."
"Is their boss Xavier?"
Why did we both think that? "No, it's someone else."
"Where are they taking us?"
"To Vegas – Las Vegas," I said.

I stared out of the room window. We had arrived in Vegas this morning and I was the only one awake. Shauna and Zed were fast asleep in the room next door and so was Cami. There was just me, wondering what the hell we were going to do and whether or not I should believe the fact that Grace might still be alive. I decided to screw it for the moment.
"I can't believe I'm doing this," I muttered, whilst sliding into a new pair of jeans I found in the wardrobe. I put on a new shirt, too – white with buttons all the way down. If I could find I way to contact Mom... No, I wouldn't. I was still too young to even try telepathy over city borders. But it would be so good if she were here. She'd know exactly what to do; I didn't know anything.
Zed knocked on the door, his head peering through, "Morning. C'mon, eat up and then we're going to see the boss."
"Cami's still asleep," I protested.
