When Sasuke closed the door of his room behind them, he released his grip on Katsu.

The pathetic girl simply collapsed to the floor and refused to look back up at him. Her chakra was drained.

Looking upon her sorrow, Sasuke had the odd urge to comfort her, to wrap his arms around her and tell her it would be alright. But he shook that feeling off. It wasn't his place to be there for her. Even if some weak part of his black heart wanted to be. That was just a part of him that was yet to be destroyed.

"Come along," Sasuke said uncomfortably, glaring down at her. "Get yourself together. He's only your teacher, after all."

Katsu glared up at him, her anger somehow making her even more beautiful. "Don't tell me what to do," she seethed, her pale cheeks red with her fury. She rose slowly so that she was in front of him, a head shorter, but still fairly intimidating. Her eyes were red-rimmed and her cheeks were streaked with tears of hatred.

Sasuke realized then that he'd never seen her cry before. "Don't worry, darling," he said, brushing her dark, violet hair back behind her ear. He frowned when she didn't flinch as she had before. Her fear level had reduced. He would have to change that later. "You'll be here for a fairly long time." He sighed. "You shall fall in love with me soon enough and then you shall be happy again."

Katsu growled and pushed on his chest, creating more distance between them. She appeared repulsed.

Sasuke grinned and closed the distance once again, coming closer so that his face was only several inches from hers. She growled and his grin turned into a smirk. "Does that idea not appeal to you?" he asked bluntly, purposely toying with her anger. "Don't worry... it will."

Katsu smiled then, but not a sweet smile- a savage one. As she took a step toward him, he took a step backward, a genuine trace of bewilderment entering his confident demeanor. They continued like this, her taking a step forward and him matching it with one backward. "Never," she said dangerously, forcing him backward. "Will I ever love someone like you!"

Sasuke's back hit the wall.

"My heart belongs to another," she said simply.

Sasuke gripped her elbows, pulling her against him. "Who?" he asked dangerously, his eyes flashing like onyx.

"That's my business not yours," she spat. "Just let my sensei go."

Sasuke growled. "Why do you care so much about that lousy instructor of yours?" he inquired obliviously. "If anything, you should welcome his demise with a smile on your face."

Katsu pushed at him but he refused to let go of her. "How can you say that?" she asked in disbelief. "He was once your trainer too."

Sasuke smiled darkly. "Yes, he was. And now that his death grows ever nearer, I revel in the delight of knowing he's one less person that I must strive to best. One less person that could even be comparable to me."

She pushed him off of her, her sudden strength surprising him.

But he could only smirk at the drained looking expression of her face afterward. The power of his own draining jutsu alone surprised him sometimes.

"You're the epitome of selfish," she spat, though her voice did not sound as powerful as it had before. In fact, it was nearly trembling.

Sasuke suddenly took her face in his hands, not roughly at all, but actually gently. "Is it really that horrible to be here with me?" he whispered, his eyes peering darkly into her bright ones. "Isn't this the very desire of your pure heart? What you wanted even when we were merely mid-teenagers? For us to be together?"

"That wasn't that long ago," Katsu said quietly. "But you changed everything when you left. Yourself, the entire Leaf Village... and me. I'm not the same person I was several years ago. I'm much stronger."

Sasuke narrowed his eyes. How much stronger could she really be?

"Now let my sensei go," she repeated definitively.

Sasuke released her in anger where she toppled over, most of her chakra drained.

He grabbed an empty hand-torch from one wall and lit it with the fireplace that gave the room its dull glow. Without saying anything else, he exited the room, slamming the door behind him and locking it.

The prison cells were fairly dark, but then again, they always were. When Sasuke reached the one he was looking for, he halted, the torch filling it with its fire light. A figure lay there, face-first on the ground, his limbs at odd angles to clue he had fallen.

The bloodshot eyes of the man slowly peered upward. He flinched at the sight of the fire as if it truly hurt his eyes. It made sense; he had been in the dark for quite a long while now. His skin was sickly pale, his hair flat and scraggly against his shoulders. "Sasuke..." Kakashi said, his voice low and scratchy. "How nice of you... to pay me a visit..."

Sasuke narrowed his eyes. Even dying, this man was sarcastic. "Why does she care so much about you?" Sasuke demanded, refusing to waste time with small talk.

"I'm afraid... I do not know your meaning..." Kakashi said.

"Oh, but I think you do," Sasuke said, his eyes darting to where the dying shinobi moved his hand backward as if to conceal something he was holding. The movement was almost imperceptible but Sasuke saw it. "What is it you have in your hand, Hatake?" he inquired suspiciously.

"I have nothing..." came his reply but it was too slow of an answer.

Sasuke darted his hand through the bars of the cell and snatched what the sensei had been clutching feebly. Raising his dark eyebrows, Sasuke examined it. It was a just a small velvet box. Upon opening it, however, Sasuke nearly dropped it entirely.

An intricate, diamond ring in the shape of the symbol for the the Village Hidden in the Leaves glinted back up at him.

"No," he said in shock, looking back and forth between Kakashi and the ring. "You?! You're the supposed man she's given her heart to?!" he asked in disbelief.

Kakashi donned the smallest of smiles, the corners of his mouth almost imperceptibly tilting upward. "...Did she really say that...?" he asked weakly.

"This whole time it's been you?!" Sasuke continued without answering. "You're the reason she will not be with me?" He started laughing then. "You?! The Copycat Ninja?!"

Kakashi said nothing but Sasuke could sense his weak anger. When his laughing finally subsided, Sasuke spoke once again. "Well we'll just have to fix that, won't we" he said before wiping a humorous tear from his eye.

"...Your meaning...?" came the sensei's voice.

Sasuke smiled savagely. "You're going to tell her that you hate her," he said. "You're going to tell her all of this is her fault. That you're dying because of her. That those insufferable children and yourself would've been better off without her."

"I...will never... do that..." Kakashi said then, an underlying worry now entering his voice.

"Oh, but I think you will," Sasuke responded cruelly, a smirk on his lips as he threw the ring back at him. "And you had better make it convincing." He leaned closer to the bars. "Because if you don't... I'll kill her." He let that thought sink in before adding slowly, "And you'll watch every second of it."

Kakashi didn't speak again. And all Sasuke could do was smirk.
