Maddie Calls Kendall

Maddie
"Hello?"

"Hey Kendall," I said after she answered. "It's me, Maddie."

"Oh hey...are you using Kenzie's phone?"

"Yeah," I answered. "Since mine was...taken away."

Kendall was silent for a moment, probably wondering why I had called her. The reason was that I wanted to know what she said to Nick and what he said to her this morning at school after I left them. I want to know if he is mad.

"Listen, I only have a few minutes cause I can't let my mom know I'm using Mackenzie's phone, but I need to talk to you...about Nick," I said. Kendall was silent again.

"Kendall?" I asked, wondering if she had hung up. "Are you still on?"

"Oh, um, yeah," she said. "W-what about Nick?"

She sounded nervous. Uh-oh.

"This morning? After I kinda ditched you and left you with him cause I was nervous," I said.

I heard Kendall breath a sigh of relief.

"Oh," she replied. "I just told him the truth."

The truth?

"What do you mean?" I asked.

"Well," she said, "he asked me why you left, and I told him because your mom knew about...you two."

I shut my eyes.

"And I told him Miss Abby knew," Kendall said quickly.

Great.

"Ughhhh," I said.

"What did you want me to say?" Kendall asked.

"No wondering he's been sending me all these texts," I complain.

"Maddie I-"

"Just stop Kendall," I snapped.

"No, YOU STOP MADDIE!"

I was shocked. I haven't heard Kendall yell like that in a long time. And I've never heard her yell like that to me.

"What did you want me to do, lie?" she asked. "Well, sorry Maddie, but I'm not going to do that. Not even for my best friend. Not that you act like my best friend; you lie to me, ignore me, and act like your better than me all the time! This can't be a one-sided friendship Maddie! I'm done. See you at dance."

And with that, Kendall hung up.
