Chapter 3
________________________
As soon as Diamond and I got home, I started to prepare dinner. I chopped up some potatoes and mixed some chicken and seasoning into a pot. Diamond later joined me in the kitchen to eat her after school snack.

"So how was school, baby?" I asked while stirring the chicken.

"It was so, so, so fun Brook. I can't wait to go back tomorrow." She enthused.

"I'm glad to hear that. What did you do?"

"Well first, we filled our desks with our supplies then we played a couple of games. After that my teacher gave us a list of words to memorize and said for homework we have to copy those words on a piece of paper ourselves."

"Well, did you do that yet?"

"No, not yet. But the words are easy, so it's okay."

"But you still have to do it, Diamond. Even if it's easy."

"Aw man!"

"Why don't you take your snack to the dining table and start your homework while you're eating?"

Diamond took her plate of apples wedges and went into the dining room to start her homework. While I was putting the potatoes in the oven, I got a call from Bria.

"Hey, baby!" Bria said through the phone.

"Hey, girl. What's up?"

"Nothing much. How 'bout you? How was your first day at work?"

"It was much better than I thought. There's just so many good things about it, that I can see myself staying there for a long time."

"That's good to hear. Well, I'm happy for you Brooklyn."

"Thanks, babe." I smiled.

"You, Diamond, and I need to hang out this weekend. I miss you guys." She chuckled.

"Well what do you have in mind?" I asked.

"I'll treat you guys to lunch and a movie."

"That sounds good. Thanks Bria."

"Anytime. Well, let me go. Call me when you get a chance tomorrow."

"Of course. Bye!" And with that I hung up and placed my phone in my back pocket.

As I took out the potatoes from the oven to add more seasoning and stir it, I realized that I didn't have the key ingredient I needed.

"Crap." I whispered.

"What wrong?" Diamond asked while putting her plate in the sink.

"We don't have our special ingredient for the potatoes!"

"The special ingredient?"

"Mhm."

"Well we have to get it, Brook. Otherwise the potatoes won't be special, duh!" Diamond said while putting her hands on her hips.

"You're right. Get your shoes on and get my keys."

"On it!"

Diamond and I walked into the grocery store looking for the seasoning we need for the potatoes. As we walked into one of the aisles, Diamond helped me look for the seasoning on the bottom shelves as I looked on the top shelves. Not paying attention to where I was going, I bumped into somebody with my shopping cart.
