The King stiffened and his eyes shot to his brother, who looked confused. He took a deep breath then looked back at me. "Wait, 17 years ago I was dating your mother. She cheated on me? She had to have done that for cross-breeding is impossible! Apparently, she was a whore, and therefore deserved the death she'd received."

"She didn't cheat on you!"

"How could you prove otherwise?" He stood and glared at me. "You're proof of her betrayal!"

I was mad. My father, my mother's mate, had just called her a whore. The man was supposed to love her forever, yet he'd just insulted her in the worst way. Not to mention that he thought she deserved death. My wolf stood up and raised her head, as if howling to the moon and my eyes were drawn to the window. Oh, shoot fire and save the matches- the full moon was today. Caleb hadn't mentioned that I'd been out for a couple of days. My body trembled as my wolf clawed her way to the surface. Right before my first phase took over my body, a sweet liquid filled my mouth as just my two top fangs dropped down. I spit the liquid onto the floor as my fangs retreated into my gums and I exploded into my wolf. A howl of pain erupted from my throat and I collapsed onto the floor.

"Did you see that?" Eric's voice got closer as he came over to me.

"Yes. Those were vampire fangs." Gideon strolled over and I felt an unseen pressure fall upon me, keeping me pinned on the ground. "What are you?"

I growled at him, even though his words played over and over in my head. Those were vampire fangs... What are you?... vampire fangs... What are you?

What are you?

My head spun as his words settled and I had no way to answer him. I didn't know. It's my body, but I don't even know what it is. What I am. I struggled to my feet and backed away on four legs. My head swiveled to stare at the window, finding a snowy white wolf staring back at me. Growling, my hackles rose and the white wolf copied me.

Wait... that wolf is me.

I yipped and ran around the room, enjoying the freedom of letting my wolf run. She wanted to go outside but saw no exit possible as guards stood at each one. The King watched me run around, a slight smile curving his lips at my antics. Stopping far from them and at a place where I could see the whole room, I laid down and placed my head on my forepaws, eyeing my uncle as he started to walk over.

"Phase back. We have to talk."

I panicked. I didn't know how to phase back. My frightened wolf took over, jumping to my feet and growled menacingly at Eric. He froze and my dad quickly pulled him back. Holding his hands out, he approached me but I darted around him, heading for the door. Guards blocked me and I jumped, aiming for the window next to the door. Glass rained down as I flew through it and took off into the forest.

Scents assaulted my nose and I found Eric's scent, following it back to the river. Jumping across, I sniffed along the shore, heading upstream, searching for my scent. After about ten minutes of sprinting along the shore line, I found it. My sickly sweet yet forest pine scent wrapped around me as I race back. There was a crack of a twig behind me and I spun around, raising my hackles and growling. Eric stood in the shadow of a huge oak tree, but my wolf eyes could see his outline in that darkness. He launched at me and I scurried to the side, snapping at him as he went by. While he was turning, I tackled him, pinning him to the ground. A sharp pain pierced my side and I howled, falling off him. He stood up and I saw that he held a knife.

A knife covered in blood. My blood.

Looking down at my side, I whined, staring at the crimson blood staining my fur. Eric's chest rumbled and I looked back at him in time to see the knife drop and he moved to my side, his eyes fixated on the blood pouring from the wound. I whimpered as his fangs dropped and he leaned forward, inhaling deeply.
