There was a toddler sitting there, staring up at Camdyn's wolf with fear. I shooed Camdyn off and crouched down in front of the boy. He ran out and jumped into my arms, burying his face in my neck. I stood up slowly and held him against me. His tiny hands clutched at my neck and he trembled in my arms.
"What's wrong, buddy?"
He sniffled and pointed to the ground. I looked down and saw that there was something sticking out from the underbrush. I bent and picked it up, realizing it was a letter. The boy had already buried his face in my neck again. Opening the letter, I read it as I walked back to the pack house.
To whom it may concern,
Please take care of my son, Hunter. I've been searching for a good home for him and if you're reading this and have found him, then you must be what I've pictured. I apologize for any inconvenience and I hope that you can raise him better than I could. Maybe someday I could come back to see him? Thank you.
P.S. He isn't allergic to anything.
P.P.S. If you're that blonde-haired girl, I believe that you'll be a great substitute mother for Hunter. I saw you with that small boy in the fight, you made sure he was safe despite the dangers to you. Please understand that Hunter is just like you, so I can't keep him safe. If you were wondering, his last name is Johnson. Thank you again.
The last part was handwritten whereas the rest was typed up.
I frowned at the paper in my hands and then looked down at the boy in my arms. He was playing with my hair, giggling to himself. Did his mother think I was werewolf, or vampire? I sniffed the air and froze when a scent very similar to mine met my nose. The little boy smelled like moss, just like a werewolf, but he had that sickly sweet scent of a vampire. That's impossible.
Right?
Camdyn's big black wolf came up next to me while I folded the letter and shoved it in my pocket. The little boy, Hunter, stared in fear at Camdyn. He clung to my neck and trembled in fear.
"Hey, it's okay. Look, he won't hurt you." I stuck my hand out and petted Camdyn's head, raking my fingers through his soft fur. Hunter watched me with wide eyes and eventually stuck his hand out and petted my mate's head. Camdyn licked his hand and Hunter squealed, then giggled and burrowed his face back into my neck.
Camdyn touched his wet nose to my cheek and I smiled at him, resuming my walk back to the pack house. We reached the feild and I stepped onto it, drawing eyes to me. Hunter pressed himself closer to me and his arms tightened around my neck. I placed one hand on the back of his head and walked back to the house, going up to my room.
"It's okay, Hunter. No one's going to hurt you. I promise."
He looked at me with wide eyes and smiled. I noticed that now that we were in better lighting, I could make out the color of his hair and eyes. He had the same white-blonde hair as me and our skin tone matched too. His eyes, however, were an icy blue and seemed to look straight into my soul. I smiled back at him. How could I not? He's too cute.
"Hunter, how old are you?"
"I'm twee!" He studied his hand and then held up three fingers.
"You're such a big boy!"
He beamed at me and then looked around. I walked over to the couch and sank onto it setting Hunter on the cushion beside me. Leaning forward, I grabbed the container of cookies and took one for me, then handed one to Hunter. He took it and crawled onto my lap, leaning against me as he munched away at the cookie.
There was a knock on my door and we both turned to see Camdyn leaning against the doorjam. He was watching us with a smile tugging at his lips. Hunter looked up at me, confusion in his eyes. I smiled at him and waved Camdyn into the room.
"Hunter, this is Camdyn. Camdyn, this is Hunter."
"Hey Hunter. How old are you little man?"
"I'm twee!" He then turned and pointed to me. "Who you?"
"I'm Legna."
He nodded and finished the last of his cookie. He climbed off my lap and onto the ground, then started running around the room. We watched as he went over to the closet and stretched up on his toes, grabbed the handle and turned it, stumbling back when it swung open his way. He pushed the door aside and looked inside.
"Play hide-and-seek!" He squealed and ran inside the closet, disappearing into my clothes. "Find me!"
I laughed and stood up. "Ready or not, here I come!"
I walked into the closet and looked around, trying to spot any movement in my clothes. My dresses were moving and I smiled. "Hmmm, where could you possibly be? Aha!"
I'd swept aside my dresses, but there was no one there. I turned and saw Hunter walking up behind me. He screamed when he saw that I caught him and then took off running out the closet door. I ran after him and scooped him up into my arms, tickling him. He squealed and started pushing at my hand, giggling like crazy. Hands swept Hunter away and I looked up to see Camdyn standing there with Hunter standing on the couch, watching us with a huge smile.
"Payback time."
My eyes widened and I tried to run but he caught my wrist and pulled me back to him. I tripped and fell back on my butt. He followed me down and I gasped when he pinned me by strandling my hips and he grinned evilly. His fingers landed on my sides and I squealed, pushing at his hands while I laughed so hard that I stopped breathing. Suddenly he leaned down and kissed me before getting off me. A small body flung itself onto me and I grunted when Hunter's knee sank into my gut.
"I do too!" He started tickling me then and I gasped for breath between my laughter.
"Alright little man, I think you got her."
Hunter clambered off me and walked over to Camdyn who had crouched down. Camdyn held up his hand and Hunter slapped it with his own hand, high-fiving my mate. That little traitor! I closed my eyes and struggled to even out my breathing. Once I was good, I sat up and Hunter walked over to me and collapsed into my lap, snuggling into me. A huge yawn overtook him and he drifted off to sleep. I scooped him into my arms and laid him down on my bed, taking off his shoes and then tucking him into the sheets. I placed one hand on his head, then lent down and kissed his hair softly.
"You should go to sleep too."
I turned to look at Camdyn. He was right, I should. Exhaustion was clawing at me, threatening to pull me into a deep sleep any second. I yawned hugely and Camdyn led me to the other side of the bed. I kicked off my shoes and climbed under the sheets. My mate gave me a soft kiss before leaving, closing my door behind him. My eyes drifted to my cablebox and I saw that it was nearing eleven at night. I didn't realize that it was that late.
I rolled onto my left side, facing Hunter's sleeping form. He looked to peaceful and innocent in his sleep. My eyes closed and the I felt a small body snuggling up to me. I looked down at Hunter in surprise. He yawned again and I smiled sleepily. He was so darn cute! Once more, my eyes shut and this time, I fell into a deep sleep.
