My body hurt like hell. I groaned and shifted awkwardly in the little space I had. Cold fingers brushed lightly across my cheek and a smile spread across my face. I opened my eyes to see Declan propped up on his elbow next to me.
"Welcome to the world of the living, little wolf."
"Hi Declan."
He growled and his eyes darkened with lust while his fangs elongated. A combined lustful sigh came from both my wolf and vampire. Wait, no, they had joined together and there was no more bickering with each other. They'd even ditched their names, ready to take up mine when I joined them. No more migraines!
"My name sounds so sexy coming out of your mouth, little wolf."
I giggled. "At least I know your name. I was introduced to you as Princess."
He smirked and nuzzled my neck. "I know all about you, Legna Summers."
A shiver ran down my spine and my eyes darkened. Damn him and his husky voice. He chuckled and placed a kiss on my collarbone. I gripped his hair and yanked his head back from my body.
"I can't have you distracting me. How do you know about me?"
"I was assigned your bodyguard as soon as your father knew you were staying here. That's why I came back so early."
"Well I'm sure you'll do a wonderful job. I have no doubt that I will be perfectly safe."
He smiled widely and wrapped an arm around my waist. "I would never let you get hurt, my little wolf."
I rolled onto my back and then noticed the missing body. "Where's Hunter?"
"Ajax came to get him about an hour ago to make pancakes and then play some laser tag or something. He just wanted to give us some alone time."
"Oh."
Declan sat up and frowned thoughtfully. He narrowed his eyes as he stared at the pillow next to my face. I reached up and placed my palm on his cheek. His hand covered it and he pulled my hand forward to kiss it. A cold but pleasant shock traveled down my arm and I arched myself closer to him.
"What's wrong?"
"I have an idea on how to heal you, but I don't want to rush into anything that could make you uncomfortable."
"Huh?"
He smiled weakly, then gripped my hand and played with my fingers. "Well, you're half-vamp and vampires heal from the blood of their beloved, but if you were to heal, we'd have to mate first. Not completely, just mark each other, but-"
"Declan, I don't want to offend you, but I will have to refuse. I want you, trust me. However, I don't think I could handle more pain at the moment, and it would be rushing things." I pulled him closer and struggled to sit up. He gently cradled me into his lap and ran his hands through my hair.
"I understand, little wolf. I am not offended. No matter how long it could take, I will wait. I will do anything to prove to you that I'm not your mate," he snarled the word, then took a deep breath to calm down. "I am nothing like him, and I would never hurt you in any way."
