Michael held Luke's hand the whole way back in the car. He drove carefully with one hand on the wheel, the complete opposite of the state he was in about an hour ago.

He occasionally glanced over to see Luke looking at the sky, his blonde quiff blowing in the wind. He looked, angelic.

The peaceful silence was interrupted by Luke's phone ringing. Luke picked up and tiredly said, "Hello?"  A voice Michael recognised was speaking on the phone, Liz.

"I know mum and I'm sorry ok? I didn't know what I was doing. If I got on the plane it would've been the wrong thing to do. I have to stay here."
Luke squeezed Michael's hand and he replied with a warm smile.
"I'll pay you back for the plane ticket and everything else. I'm sorry."

He pressed the end button on the phone and let out a deep sigh. "You okay?" Michael asked gently. Luke looked over at him and smiled weakly, "Mums mad at me. Not surprised though."

"I know Lukey, but you couldn't leave. She knows that. She'll come round."  Michael said, the soft tone in his voice melting like butter. Michael knew the way Liz reacted made him upset, but he wanted nothing more than for Luke to be happy. He brought his hand, still holding Luke's, up to Luke's face and stroked his cheek reassuringly.

"I hope so," Luke murmured into Michael's hand, "Also it doesn't help I'm tired as shit. I've got bags under my eyes the size of those massive ones you get at malls."

Michael giggled and then looked Luke right in his blue eyes, "I think you still look beautiful. Wherever and whenever." Luke's cheeks rouged pink and he rubbed circles on the top of Michael's hand with his thumb. "Right back atcha Mikey." He breathed.

Luke looked at the SatNav and his stomach lurched uncomfortably. 4 miles until they were back. Oh shit.

"Michael," he started nervously, Michael immediately picked up the panic in his voice, "Yeah, Lukey?" He answered softly.

"Are Ash and Cal mad?" Luke choked. Tears started forming in his baby blue eyes. Guilt overwhelmed him like a weight pressed on his chest.

Michael pulled over into a bay on the side of the road. He turned to face Luke. "Hey," he began gently, "They are not mad ok? If they were, they're totally over it now, and they were probably confused, because you only told me exactly why you left. Now that's solved. Because I love you too. And I am going to help you through everything."

Luke choked back more tears. He leaned over the dashboard and kissed Michael softly. Michael kissed him back and accidentally put his hand on the handbrake and the car began rolling backwards. Michael pulled away and quickly fixed the handbrake. "Shit" he laughed. He winked at Luke, "baby look what you've done to me. and nearly my car!"

Luke laughed gently and replied "I would ask you to put Four on, but I know you hate it. Plus, Zayn was your favourite." He stuck out his bottom lip and pouted slightly. Michael smirked.

"Are you kidding me?!" said Michael, "FOUR IS MY JAM! and everyone knows you're my favourite silly. But I still miss Zayn man." He wiped a fake tear off his cheek and put one hand on his heart, before turning the CD case on, which still had Four in it from the last time Luke was in the car.

He turned the volume on full. And drove back on the highway, singing No Control at the top of his voice. Luke laughed at him in awe.

How could someone make him so happy by doing virtually nothing but existing?

He might never know. But he was very very ver extremely glad it was Michael.

"Turn left at the next exit. 3.3 miles until destination."

"god damnit SatNav that was my favourite part!"
