The candle in my burns with the scent of cinnamon. Reaching my hand out, I brush the brown strand of hair from my daughter's eye.
"You still don't need this light now, do you?" I ask her. "Your a big girl now."
She peers up at me from under the covers; her small body snuggled up under a huge blanket.
She nods her head and I smile. "How about I take the light with me for tonight." Abel, the youngest of the two, jumps up onto the bed.
"I'll scare them away!" He shouts. A wooden stick is held firmly in his hand. "No monsters will catch me, mommy!"
He tries to break the stick, but fails. Delilah smiles and scoots over for Abel to crawl in next to her."There are no monsters here, I promise you that," I whisper. "You will only see what your mind wants you to see. Do you want to see a monster?" They both shake their heads. "Then don't think of none, Ok?"
They nod their head in unison. Kissing their heads I wish them a good night before leaving the room.
My bare feet trails down the cold, moist, hard wood floors and my dress follows behind. Reaching the window, I sit the candle down. The moon is shining awfully bright tonight and I stare up at its beauty. My mind starts to drift off into another world, when I hear the wood floor creek upstairs.
