We start to set up camp far from the Waterfalls; to keep away from any nightmares. I was surprised to hear this prisoner speak about nightmares. He doesn't seem like the type to be afraid of any thoughts or dreams.
I tie my horse up to a tree and pull out some apples.
"Here you go, girl," I said, giving her one apple at a time. I brush her main as she eats and kisses her head. "Sweet dreams."
I walk over to my mat that I laid out as the prisoner makes the fire to keep us warm. I pull out some bread and cheese for us to eat. He takes a roll of bread and cheese and we both start to munch silently.
I wonder if my babies are being fed.
I stare down at my half eaten piece of cheese and my memories of my son start to cloud around me.
"But mommy!" He whined as I added cheese to his sandwich. "I don't like cheese! It stinks!"
My heart starts to swell and I can hardly taste the bread in my mouth.
"You have to eat it, OK? It'll make you stronger."
"Just like milk!?" He asks, peering up at me.
"Just like milk."
I squeeze my eyes shut and try to push it all back. When I open them, the prisoner eyes locked with mine.
"I don't think we're farther enough from the Waterfalls," I claimed.
He stares at me. "The Waterfalls are another two miles away. We're good."
I look down at the tall trees and shadows surrounding us. To take my mind off of things, I start up a conversation. "Why did you decide to join me in finding my kids? You could have just told me the way I needed to go and head your own way."
He raises an eye brow and snickered. "And have you traveling by yourself? Yeah.... That'll be smart."
"Are you saying I can't defend myself?"
He shrugs. "What ever helps you sleep, Princess."
"Amma."
"What ever," he says, finishing off another roll of bread. "And what makes you think I don't need to head the same way your headed?"
"What's your reason?" I ask. "You already know mine."
"First you want to know my name, and now you want to know my business?" He asks. "Why are you so concerned about me?"
"I am not concerned!" I retorted. "If we're traveling together, I should know SOMETHING about you!" We stare at each other and I start to get more annoyed. "Fine! It doesn't matter. Your right."
I grab a hold of my blanket and pull it up to my chin before laying down on my mat.
I heard him sigh before saying "The names Christopher." I look up at him but he's not looking at me. "But the reason I'm traveling with you is my business."
"So its not to protect me or help me," I said, sitting up on my elbow.
"I'm taking you to your..... Babies. That's what you asked me to do. I didn't hear anything about protection."
I stare at him and he leans back against the tree. "I thought the purpose of an angel is to protect and serve." He doesn't answer and I stare at his wings. "How long did it take for you to-"
"Get some sleep," he cuts me off. "Your only getting four hours to sleep before we start moving again."
I rest my head on my arms but I don't fall asleep until the wind blows the fire out and darkness covers me.
I am jerked out of my sleep and pulled to my feet. My feet are unstable and I nearly fall. The hand gripping me tightens and I whimper from the pain.
"Wake up!"
My eyes snap open but its too dark for me to see. "Christopher?"
"Let's go. We gotta move."
Something about his voice alarms me and I reach to pick up my mat. My eyes start to adjust and I can see Christopher moving in a fast pace. There's no time to fold anything so I throw it in the bag and load it onto my horse.
I'm lifted off the ground and onto my horse. I stare at him in shock and he grabs the rope from the tree. "Head to the Falls."
"What!?" I ask shocked and still half sleep. "What's -"
"Go!" He shouted at me. "I'll be there."
I can hear horses in the distance behind me and my heart races with fear. He smacks the horses rear with his hand and my horse dashes away."Christopher!" I shout over my shoulder but I don't see him no where. I face straight ahead and lead my horse through the trees.
Follow the cool breeze. You'll know it when you feel it.
My horse picks up speed and I smile when I finally feel it. I don't know how to describe it but..... I can feel it. The wind changes directions and its like I'm being pushed forward. The smell of wet grass fills my nose and finally the sound of the falls fills my ears.
I jump off of the horse and run towards the water. The breeze from the falls runs down my spine and I wait.
My eyes search around for any sign of Christopher but I don't see him.
Come on.
I start to shiver and wraps my arms around my body when a figure emerges from the trees.
