(Okay just so everybody knows the book is set in 2250, and everyone from earth lives underground. They live underground because there was a deadly gas that spread on earth.)

My mom pulls the cover off of me. "Mom", I whine, "back to bed, back to bed."

"C'mon we have to go shopping for your commencement cermony; I've made a list for us. So I expect you to be ready in ten minutes."

Once she leaves I slowly get out of bed and collapse on the floor. I got like no sleep last night because I stayed up watching old disney movies from 2040 until about 2060. Even though they are over two hundred years old I still enjoy watching them.

I put on a cute denim dress, that I made when I was in the third year of secondary school. (High school, for all you readers).

Then I go to the bathroom, take a shower, then put on makeup.

"Finally! That was way longer than ten minutes." My mom says once I walk into the kitchen. " So sorry", I say halfheartedly as I give her a fake sympathetic smile.

"Now are you ready to go? she asks. "Yep", I say.

We get into elevator to go to level 400, 647 (the level for buying commencement ceremony dresses). We stroll out of the elevator to get onto the level, but I stop immediately.

It takes my breath away, you know I'm not a really girly girl but there have to be thousands of dresses here.

A woman with a name tag that says Julie walks up to us."Hi I will be your assistant today for finding the perfect dress to go to your commencement ceremony!"

"So on this side we have the ball gown dresses. But are we wasting our time here do you already know what style you want?" "Ummm", I say.

I actually had been thinking about this day since I was four. My friends and I always talked about which dresses we would wear, and how the party would look. Also which jobs we would get and which guys we would dance with.

You see that was how the commencement ceremony worked. All of the graduates of secondary school went to the commencement ceremony. While they are there, a ceremony begins. They hand you a sheet of paper with the job you got. You couldn't not have it, it was the job for the rest of your life no buts. Also were you lived, and how much money you had, everyone got the exact same amount, but we won't know it until then. Also on the sheet was how many kids we got (it is not the same amount of kids for everyone). Even though that doesn't seem like a lot, there are instructions and things you have to do. It's quite a long sheet of paper. After the ceremony, everyone gets to pick a dancing partner. Except they are not quite dancing partners. They are the people we marry. The girls sit at there tables and the guys ask them (although if you are gay you can ask whomever you want). You can see each others ID card which has some things about them. You see we were schooled separately then the boys. We have never known boys except for some pictures, and if we have brothers.

"Earth to Aarika", my mom says. I look up, "sorry I got lost in thought." "I totally understand dear. Now do you have any idea what style you would like to wear?" Uh yeah a mermaid style please and maybe strapless. "Oh that's gonna look beautiful on you." Julie says.

She leads us toward what apparently is the mermaids isle.

I walk through the dresses and try a few on, but none of them seem right. Then I see it. A blood red and black sleeveless dress, that's a little bit too long so it will trail behind me.

It was perfect.
