If you have ever been locked up in a candle lit room for a long period of time, let me just tell you that when you first see the sun it is a little piece of heaven. As Troy led me out to the deck a smile spread across my face. It was truly beautiful.
The sky was the prettiest shade of blue and there wasn't a cloud in sight. I walked to the railing and looked down at the sea. It was so blue that I could see all the fish playing beneath the ship. I felt someone walk up behind me and place their hands on my shoulders.
"You like it?" Troy's voice whispered in my ear.
"I love it." And that was the honest truth. For the first time since I was taken, I felt at peace.
"The water is so beautiful."
"Do you want to go in?" I turned back around to face Troy, thinking he was joking. But the look on his face told me otherwise.
"Um, I can't swim."
"Oh right! I forgot." I turned back around and looked out to the sea again.
"Do you want to learn how?" Did I want to learn to swim? Being on a ship it seemed only fitting that I know how. But water scares me. Especially when you can never see the bottom.
"I don't know." I said hesitantly.
"Oh come on, you know you want to." I bit my lip, thinking hard about the question. He was right. I did want to learn how but I was just scared.
"Okay. Teach me how to swim." He grinned and turned to a chubby man who appeared to be steering the ship and motioned him to stop. The man dipped his head in respect and cast down the anchor.
"Emery." Troy began as he turned me to face him again. "You have to listen to everything I say and not get angry when I do certain things. It's for the best and I would never let you get hurt."
"What are you-"I began, starting to feel very worried, but he quickly cut me off.
"Just say you trust me and promise not to get angry with me."
"I promise." I hesitantly mumbled out.
"Alright. Let's teach you to swim. This is the part where you are going to hate me." Before I could question him he scooped me up in his arms and threw me over the side of the ship. A small squeal escaped my lips before my back hit the water, causing a stinging sensation to spread over my body. Then I started to sink.
What the logic was behind this, I had no clue. But instead of panicking I decided to stay calm knowing that Troy would be here soon, right? I mean he wouldn't just throw me in here and then leave. Now the panicking set in. But before I started thrashing around a loud noise came crashing through the water followed by a pair of strong arms scooping me up. Within seconds my head hit the surface and I gasped for air.
"What the hell Emery? You were supposed to try to swim, not just sit there and sink."
"A little warning next time would be great!" I stumbled out as I coughed all the water out of my lungs. After a couple minutes the coughing stopped and I just sat there in Troy's arms as he held us both above water.
"Okay, I'm ready to try again." I said confidently. Troy cocked an eyebrow at me while grinning.
"I don't know if I trust you after our last little go."
"Hey, this was your idea."
"That it was, but now I'm starting to regret it." I just rolled my eyes and squirmed out of his arms. Once I was free I held on to his shoulder as I tried to keep my head above the water.
