The Servant

Chapter 6

Helix hurried to speak with his mother while Chastity changed for dinner. He knew that his mother would be in her private chambers.

"Helix, is something wrong?" His mother asked when she saw him. Looking around, there was no sign of the visiting queen or princess. "They are settling in and getting ready for dinner. Do you want to talk?"

"You don't mind, do you?" He asked. He knew that his mother was already ready for dinner, as was he.

"Of course not. Is something the matter?" She asked him, ushering him inside.

"It's about Chastity." He told her, sitting down on the opposite side as his mother. "I've wanted to speak to you about this for quite some time, but it's been busy here lately."

"I know it has. I'm sorry for that. Is Chastity alright?" His mother asked with a worried look on her face.

"Chastity is doing alright." He said. "But I was hoping we could take her away from doing maid's work."

"I wanted to speak to you about that as well. You are set on her being your crown princess, aren't you?" His mother asked him. He nodded. "Then we need to ease her into the types of jobs she would be doing in that position. The only way to make her believe she could be a good ruler is to show her, to make her see that she would excel."

"That's not the only reason I wanted her to stop working as a maid." Helix said.

"What is the other reason?" She asked him.

"A little maid caught us together in the gardens a long while ago. What I didn't know was that this little maid told the others and it got around to the maids Chastity works with; the ones close to her age. Those maids have made fun of her ever since, saying it was a rumor Chastity told the little maid to spread. It's been bothering her and making her believe she's not good enough for us." Helix told his mother. She gasped.

"That poor girl. No wonder she has been acting like she has. We need to talk to her and get her away from it as soon as we can." His mother said. Helix smiled at his mother.

"Thank you," He said as the clocks chimed. Time for them to start on their way to the dinning room. "I am going to fetch Chastity. I don't want her to walk in the dinning room on her own."

"That's a good idea. Not only will it calm her, it will show the royal family that you already have a crown princess in mind." His mother said. "I need to go find your father as well."

---------------------------

Chastity looked over herself in the mirror one last time while waiting on Helix. He had said he would fetch her before dinner. The thought of dinner was making her nervous. She wasn't ready to meet the royal family. It reminded her of being nervous for when her father would arrive back at her old kingdom. She didn't understand why she felt the way she did.

"Chastity, are you ready?" Helix asked, not yet walking inside her room. She sighed and opened the door. "Wow, you look lovely."

"Thank you," She said shyly, looking away from him.

"Are you nervous for dinner?" He asked her. She nodded.

"I don't know why, but them arriving reminds me of waiting for my father to return when I was younger. I just have this feeling that something bad will happen. It frightens me." Chastity told him. He offered his arm and she took it, holding on tight.
