The Servant

Chapter 1

"Chastity, have you seen my son anywhere? No one can seem to find him." Queen Lucilia asked. Chastity nodded.

"I saw him earlier this morning, Queen Lucilia. He was in the 'hidden' room." She said. The Queen smiled at Chastity.

"Thank you, dear. I'll send Sandy up there to fetch him. His father has been hunting for him all morning." She said. "And Chastity, I thought I told you not to call me that?"

"You did, Queen Lucilia." Chastity answered.

"Then please, don't call me that darling. You are not just some servant girl. You are my son's best-friend, you sit with us during meals, we chat all the time like a mother and daughter would. Chastity, you are much more than a servant girl to us. My husband and I have told you that calling us Queen and King is not necessary." She said. Chastity blushed.

"I'm sorry, Miss." She said. Queen Lucilia shook her head in exasperation.

"Chastity, now you're just doing this on purpose." She said. Chastity smiled slightly.

"I'm afraid I am. Do you want me to fetch Helix? I'm used to getting to the room, unlike most of the servants in the palace."

"That would be wonderful dear. Are you going to be taking care of the children for the rest of the day?"

"I believe so, unless Anise is feeling better. Is there something else you need me to do?"

"No, but Helix asks normally after his daily tasks are done. Most of the time I'm not sure what you are away doing. It seems to change every day." The Queen said.

"I fill in for whoever I need to. It does change nearly every day." Chastity answered. "I'll go get Helix and finish my chores for the day before going to care for the children."

"Don't worry about the rest of the chores, Chastity. It'll be alright to miss a day. You need to have quite a bit of energy to deal with some of those kids." the Queen said.

"Thank you," she said. The Queen just smiled at her.

-.-.-.-.-

"Helix?" She called out. She could see him move inside to room to greet her.

"Hey, little Chas, what's up?" He asked her, coming over and hugging her close.

"Your parents are looking for you. They have been nearly all day." She said.

"Jeez, I had no clue." He said. "I'll head to Dad's office. Do you mind walking with me though?"

"No, but I do need to get going soon. I promised Anise I'd take care of the kids since she was sick." Chastity answered her best-friend.

"Alright. I guess I won't hold you up for too long. But, I do need to talk to you. It's kind of important." He said.

"What's wrong?" She asked, walking with him out of the room and down the hall. She didn't even notice when he took her hand in his.

"Why haven't you told my parents about your childhood?" He asked.

"I don't really know. I don't feel comfortable talking to them about it. I'm worried about how they would react, how they would treat me. I don't want people to think I'm some broken doll that can't handle being treated normally. I don't want them to think even less of me." She said.

"Even less of you? Chastity, they don't think less of you because you work as a servant. They love you. They think of you as a daughter. They don't think of you as just some servant." He said.
