 The Servant

Chapter 8

At the end of the week, the two Queens told Chastity that they were going to take a trip.

"We need to slowly start introducing you to everyone in the kingdom. They need to know who the Prince's girlfriend is; otherwise things could get out of hand." Queen Lucilia told her. "This is our way of preparing you for that."

"We'll be visiting a local orphanage. It's not terribly big, but it is big enough to attract some attention." Queen Amilia said.

"Helix will be joining us, as well as Princess Alexa and Prince Issac." Queen Lucilia said. Chastity nodded, smiling slightly. She liked that Helix was joining them. He always knew how to calm her if she felt overwhelmed. "We figured it was for the best, in case something happened and you got overwhelmed. He seems to be the best medicine for you, after all." Chastity laughed.

"Your Majesties, the carriages are ready for you." A servant girl, one Chastity hadn't seen in the palace before, said. She realized then who it was.

Anniliese Carter, her best friend. She was a maid back at the other kingdom.

Anniliese looked over at Chastity then, and recognition lit up in her eyes. Chastity smiled at her, tears welling up in her eyes. She hadn't seen her friend in years. While Chastity didn't have a good childhood there, Anniliese did. She hadn't wanted to run with Chastity. She had wanted to stay with her family.

"I thought I'd never see you again!" Anniliese exclaimed, running over to hug Chastity tightly. "I thought you had been caught."

She could hear the tears in her friend's voice, and hugged her tighter. She knew that when she had never sent Anniliese something to tell her she was alive that her friend would think the worst had happened.

"No, I got away." Chastity said. "I made it here."

Her friend pulled away, looking her over.

"I'm glad you're safe." She said, the tears falling from her eyes. Chastity knew that some of hers was as well. "I hated seeing you like that. That wasn't who you were meant to be. You were meant to be somewhere like here, where they treated you right."

"I know that now." Chastity said.

"Anniliese, what is going on?" Queen Amilia asked. Chastity looked over at Queen Lucilia, who had a knowing look on her face.

"So, this is your friend? The one that always helped you?" Queen Lucilia asked. Chastity nodded. "Well, we owe you thanks then. If it wasn't for you she wouldn't have gotten here, and she means the world to my son." She told Anniliese.

"No need to thank me, Your Majesty. Chastity is my best friend. I didn't want her to be hurt." Anniliese said. Chastity smiled at her friend. She had always had a way with words.

"What is going on here?" Queen Amilia asked. Chastity sucked in her breath. She had forgotten about her. Queen Lucilia looked over at Chastity, wanting her permission to tell the visiting queen the truth. Her step-mother.

"My name is Chastity Isabella Bishop." She answered. Recognition flittered across her step-mother's face.

"You are my husband's first daughter?" She asked. Chastity nodded. "He thought for sure that he would never see you again."

"He told you the truth?" Chastity asked.

"Of course he did. I am his wife, after all." The Queen answered. "I understand that you may think me mad for marrying him, but he is not like that anymore. He has truly changed."
