The Servant

Chapter 7

Chastity held her breath after telling Helix, afraid of how he would react. Instead of being upset about her not telling them that she was a supposedly dead princess, he held her tighter.

"I promise that, no matter what, he will never take you away from me." Helix told her. She could feel the tears well up in her eyes. "We thought that he was your father, but Mom told us we should ask you first. We can talk to Dad. He has some ideas on keeping you here and keeping you safe. We are not going to send you with someone that abused you like he did."

"You believe me, even after I've lied to you for so long?" She asked. She could hear the tears in her voice, so she knew he had to as well.

"Of course I believe you. I will always believe you." Helix said.

-------------------------

That night, Helix refused to leave Chastity alone. He wanted to know that she was safe, that no one could hurt her. After a long conversation with his father, he followed Chastity to her room.

"Thank you for escorting me back." Chastity said, opening her door.

"Chastity, how about you sleep in my room with me tonight?" Helix asked her.

"Will your parents mind?" She asked. He shook his head.

"No, Chas, they won't mind. We just have to get up on time tomorrow." He said. That made her laugh.

"Alright, I guess I'll sleep in your room tonight." She said. Quickly, she changed and hurried off with him. They didn't want the visiting family to spot them.

Lying in bed, she laid her head on his chest; listening to the beat of his heart. She fell asleep to the steady beat of his heart in her ear and his hand playing with her hair.

------------------------

The next morning, at breakfast, Chastity wasn't as stiff and nervous as the night before. She knew that now she had good people supporting her and that those people would keep her safe. She knew she was never going back to that place.

"I hope everyone had a good sleep last night." King Max, Helix's father, said as they gathered around the table. He smiled knowingly at Chastity and Helix. She wasn't surprised. He knew almost everything that was going on in his palace.

"Thank you for being so accommodating, Max." King Wes said. Chastity felt the urge to roll her eyes. She knew he could act well behaved if in public display or in the presence of those not under his control, but she never liked seeing his act. She couldn't understand how people believed him.

"Darling, you know that's not how you should address him. He is a king." His wife, Queen Amilia told him. Chastity had a small amount of respect for her. It wasn't much, mainly because she didn't know her personally and had not spoken to her. However, she had a feeling that if she got to know her she would not only respect the woman, but like her as well.

"It's alright. As he is a king like I, the need for titles is no longer relevant. There is no harm in the way he has spoken to me." King Max told Queen Amilia.

"My husband is right. You do not have to address us as King and Queen." Queen Lucilia told the visiting king and queen. Chastity admired the way she handled the situation. She hoped that one day she would be able to rule as the current Queen did.

"It's been a pleasure staying here." Queen Amilia said. "I know that this is a busy time of year for every kingdom, so I would like to offer my help in exchange for your generosity."
