Stiles pov:
"It's called frontotemporal dementia. You can lose your ability to concentrate, motivation, reasoning, social skills...personality." I pause before saying the last part, knowing it would hit Lydia the most. She sniffles a little, still hugged close to my chest as I sit off the edge of the MRI bed."Later on stages, about mid forties, you start to loose your memories. My mom had it. She was convinced I was trying to kill her." I choke out, playing with Lydia's hair while setting my chin on the top of her head. "There's no cure." I whisper and she looses it, gripping onto me tighter while weeping and I hold on too her equally as tight, a single tear slipping from my eye.
The MRI had taken about an hour and Lydia had stayed the whole time, sitting next to my father in the room with the Doctor while he examined my brain. Now we just had to wait and see if I actually had it. The door to the scanning room opens and Lydia pulls away from me as my dad walks in. He doesn't say a word, his face long and solemn and I already know.
He grabs me in a hug and now it's my turn to sob: and I do. I was going to die. I was going to die and leave my father alone. He pulls back, wiping a few of his own tears away and we both chuckle for a moment.
"Let's get you home." He gives me a quick pat on the back, gesturing to my clothes in the corner before putting an arm around Lydia and walking out.
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||"Hey, kiddo." Aunt Emma was already there, Jesse clinging to her side. They both give me a quick hug before all of us sit in the living room. I sit in the middle of the couch, Lydia to my right while Jesse sat on my lap. Dad and Auntie Em sat in the two chairs across from us.
"Everything's going to be okay." Emma assures and I shake my head.
"Don't say that." I mumble.
"But it will be. We'll figure it-"
"NO IT'S NOT. I'M DYING. I'M DYING JUST LIKE MOM AND THERE'S NOTHING WE CAN DO." I yell, standing abruptly. Dads face pales and Emma just stares at me, a single tear rolling down her face.I turn to Lydia and she just stares at the ground twiddling her thumbs. Jesse, on the other hand, is silently crying, looking up to me.
" Jesse I-" I go to grab her but she gets off the couch, leaving the room. I run a shaking hand through my hair.
"I'm gonna... I'm gonna go to bed." I mumble before quickly running up the stairs and into my room. That was six hours ago.
It was 2 am and I was still awake, one symptoms flashing across my mind: insomnia. With a sigh, I hop out of bed and out of my window, jumping to Lydia's roof and tapping on her window.
"Lydia." I whisper shout. A few minutes later she lets me in and I immediately pull her into a hug, crying."I don't want to die, Lyds." I say through tears and she hugs me tighter.
"I won't let you." She mumbles against my chest. We break apart and she rubs her hands up and down my arms. "I'll take care of you. I promise." She smiles and I sniffle with a nod.She drags me over to her bed slipping under the covers and I follow after. We just lay there, staring at each other, but I didn't mind. Eventually she turns away from me, pressing her back into my chest and I lay my arm over her side, grabbing her hand in mine.
"I love you." I whisper, softly kissing her neck and she shifts closer to me.
"I love you too." She responds before both of us slowly drift to sleep.
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||I wake to an empty bed, panic immediately rising through my body.
I sit up frantically, struggling to get the blankets off of my body.
"L-Lydia?" I call out. A moment later she enters the room, concern clear across her face.
"Hey, are you okay?" She asks as she sits next to me on the bed, tousling my hair."Yeah...you just scared me." I whisper. She takes her other hand to grab mine and I smile.
"I'm gonna get home. My dad will be up soon." I say, glancing at the clock on her desk. She tells me she'll be over later as I climb out of her window, quickly jumping over to my house. Now I just had to wait for death to knock on my door.
