(11) Team Lucas

Maya looked into Lucas's eyes and she could tell he was fighting with idea of whether to kiss her or not. Maya knew better than to think it was because he was nervous. Lucas was only this indecisive about kissing her because he didn't want to kiss; not at all. Maya regarded Lucas apprehensively. She still wasn't one hundred percent sure how she saw Lucas, but she knew she didn't want anything to happen between them until she was sure about her feelings.

"What was that for?" Lucas said looking stunned.
"Nothing. I had a nice night Lucas. Thanks, see ya!" Maya said quickly as she rushed into her home. She stood behind the door shocked with what she'd just done. She had just kissed Lucas...on the cheek. Maya did a quick job of it, but still she noticed how odd it felt. She had been in close proximity with this great guy, that was gorgeous by the way, and yet something was off. When she was with Lucas she felt too nervous to be herself. Somehow Josh came up into her mind, as she made her way to her bedroom. She took off her jacket and shoes and curled up on her bed to think. When it came to Josh, Maya was  never herself either; She was weak at the knees, jumping onto his back, and all in his face. Yet she still felt like Maya even when it was him that made her lose her toughness. Mean while with Lucas she wanted to be better, the best even. Consequently maya wasn't being herself at all because of it. Maya wasn't a golden child and she had accepted that from the beginning...so Why then was Maya so intrigued by Lucas then?

"Good night Riley."
"See you on Monday Charlie!" Riley said.
She opened the door to her home and plopped down on the couch feeling drained, even though it had been fun at the movies. It'd been the first time in a while they were all normal with each other. Riley was still her clumsy self, she ended up falling anyway after Charlie caught her, when she tripped over Lucas's shoe. Riley had squirmed uncomfortably in Charlie's arms and fell to the ground. He helped her up again but thankfully the moment was lost. But That didn't stop him from kissing her just now.

Mmm I can't really count it as a kiss. It was my cheek for goodness sake...still I was so scared. I was sure he was going to kiss me on the lips. He probably noticed my reluctance and that's why he didn't kiss me...why is Charlie such a good guy, he's making this really hard...or easy. He's just so wonderful, he can certainly hold his own against Lucas. Mmm Lucas.... I can't believe I tackled him, the princess beating the knight. Huh I wonder how it went with him and maya...

"Riley? Riley..."
"Mmm?" Riley answered, she's been deep in thought when her father walked into the living room.
"You ok?"
"Yeah"
"How'd your night go?"
"It was fun, we all got along really well for the first time in a long time..."
"I'm glad honey, now get to bed it's getting late."
"Daddy?"
"Yes, honey?"
"Are we doing ok? Or are we in over our heads...?"
"Sweetie I think your doing fine."
"Good."
"But..."
"Aww why you gatta ruin it!"
"Look I need you to know that just because your doing well it doesn't mean you aren't in over your head... Some people are good in chaos."
"Daddy?"
"Yes Riley?"
"I'm too sleepy for this right now..."
"I know honey, I know."

Lucas lied in bed thinking. He thought about how wrong Riley was. They were never going to be brother and sister but maybe Maya and him would be. When Maya kissed him he felt nothing. Sure at first he felt scared not because he thought he'd feel something for her but because he thought she was going to kiss him and he didn't want that. Suddenly Lucas felt his heart sink to his stomach, when a terrible thought struck him...What about Riley? If Maya had, had the courage to kiss him... Then surely Riley would have the courage to kiss.... Not possible... Lucas thought shaking his head, he couldn't even think it. He placed his hand over his heart. And prayed that he still had Riley's heart.
