(23) What Happens Next?

"Your move Maya." Lucas says as he walks into Topanga's and sits across from Maya, Farkle, and Smackle, across from him was Zay, back from Texas. Riley wasn't there, she had gotten up to get pastries in the kitchen.
"What are you going on about Sundance?" Maya says with a half smile. She was glad their non- relationship was back to normal.
"I talked to Riley. It was good. So now I ask, have you talked to your...umm...boing?" Lucas says with a smirk.
"Hey that's Sir Josh to you, Ranger Rick!"
"Whatever. Have you talked to him yet?"
"No." Maya said quietly looking down at her hands.
"Well, like I said, your move Hart."
"No, no, no, no, no, no ,no!"
"Come on Maya. We had a deal. What are you so afraid of?" Lucas says.
"I'm afraid that Farkle is wrong." Maya says grumpily.
"He is not wrong Buttercup. He's a genius, re-mem-ber." Smackle says gesturing with her hands.
"Yeah Maya, I would never let you do anything that could hurt you. I love you remember." Farkle adds.
"Hey!" Smackle frowns.
"Smackle, you remember Lucas? Lucas, do it!" Farkle says. Lucas turns to Smackle and winks;she giggles in response.
"And there goes that." Farkle smiles.
"I'm sorry my dearest." Smackle says.
"It's ok my former nemesis, I have Riley or Maya." Farkle grins.
"Hey!" Smackle and Lucas say together.
"Hey Lucas, looks like your getting jealous, on Riley's behalf... or is it Farkle's? Because then I'll play too. I choose Riley or Maya." Zay says nonchalantly.
"Not jealous but lets play, come on lets go." Lucas says standing up to Zay, he pulls his fists up. He jumps all around Zay and jabs the air around him.
"Yo, you know that's all kinds of not fair."
"Yeah ok." Lucas stops and sits down.
"Jea-lous." Zay mumbles.
"So how was it then? Your talk with Riley." Maya asks quietly.
"Well it wasn't easy, and she kept telling me to give up. But I could feel it. She was shaken." Lucas smiled.
"What if you made her nervous because she actually likes Charlie, Huckleberry?" Maya said quietly.
"I made her nervous because she likes me, but she thinks I like you." Lucas said sternly.
"Oh..." Maya said looking down.
"Don't worry, I'm working on it." Lucas says tenderly.
"Ok." Maya says.
Zay nudges Lucas and he looks up to see Riley slowly backing out of the kitchen. Her hands were full of pastries and knowing Riley, they would all be on the floor in the next twenty seconds if someone didn't go to help her. So naturally Lucas jumps at the chance.
"Here, let me help you with that." Lucas whispers from behind Riley. He braces himself, ready to catch the desserts, since he was sure he'd startle Riley. And sure enough one of the dessert trays in Riley's hands went flying. Luckily Lucas was able to save it.
"Oh!" Riley exlaimed.
"Got it." Lucas whispers looking at Riley. Riley looks shocked and confused.
"Lucas... hello."
"Hi, Riley." Lucas says standing up straighter and grinning.
"Hi." Riley says tilting her head.
"Hey." Lucas's eyes sparkle with glee. He could tell he was getting under her skin again.
"Hey." Riley looks down shyly. Lucas chuckles, he places his hand on her back and leads her to the gang.
"Sweets?" Lucas asks his friends, a smug grin on his face.
"Please!" Smackle smiles.
"I'll have the cookie!" Zay says raising a finger.
"Cookie day." Riley smiles.
"Stop." Zay groans but Riley starts her apology song again. When she's done Lucas begins to speak.
"So, what happens next?"
"What do you mean?" Farkle asks.
"I mean, nothing is happening, we have to do something, or nothing will ever happen again, until high school starts." Lucas says with boredom.
"Hey firstly only me and Riles decide when nothing is happening. But now I wanna know, what did you have in mind Huckleberry?"
"I don't know but it has to be all of us, together."
"And Charlie." Riley chimes in.
"Nope, no boyfriends or girlfriends, just us friends. Obvious Smarkle doesn't count. And I think your uncle can teach us some things, so he should come too." Lucas says playfully. Maya rolls her eyes, Ranger Rick was being smart, trying to include boing, knowing it would force her talk to him.
"I have an idea." Smackle pipes up.
"Do tell dearest." Farkle says.
"How about we write what each of us wants to do. One thing that each of us really likes and we never do as a group because it's very specific to us. Then we all do them together this summer." Smackle says with a satisfied smile.
"That's actually a really cool idea smackle." Maya says.
"Trust me Maya, she knows." Farkle says with a laugh.
"Ok then let's get started!" Smackle says excitedly. She reaches for her messenger bag and pulls out a small note pad and a hand full of pens. Zay stares at her perplexed.
"Why do you carry so many pens?" He says.
"I like to be prepared." Smackle shrugs.
She hands everyone a pen and takes two sheets for her self and passes the note pad to farkel, he takes two sheets and passes it, everyone follows suit.
"Remember, you have to write about something you've never done with the group because everyone else wouldn't have fun doing it, along with your name. On the second sheet write your name again." Farkle explains.

"What are you putting in Peaches?" Riley says with a grin as she folds her piece of paper until it's teeny-tiny like Pluto.
"Oh Riles, Riles, Riles. Why do you even bother asking? You know it's ganna be bad, dark and and and ...."
"It's ganna hurt isn't it?" Riley says figuring out the word, that Maya seemed to be trying to figure out.
"Yeeeaaaah. It's. Ganna. Hurt." Maya says with a mischievous grin and a sparkle in her eyes.
"Dang, whoever fishes these out of the... hat? They better not pick Maya first." Zay says solemnly as Lucas gets up from his seat, to lean next to Maya.
"On the other hand... Maya you know whatever you pick, Josh has to do too." Lucas smiles a peaceful smile as he crosses his arms. Maya rolls her eyes.
"That has nothing to do with me Huckleberry" Maya said.
"Sure." Lucas says squinting his eyes at her.
"Su-re!" Maya says, sticking her tongue out at Lucas.
"Ok you and you, stop arguing and give me your papers." Smackle says.
Everyone gives smackle their folded papers and watch as she takes the decorative bowl from the table and empties its continents. She puts the papers with their names inside, and the ones with the actives aside. Smackle then turns to farkle.
"Dearest will you do the honors?" Smackle says.
"Heeeey! What if I want to do the honors! What if Farkle chooses Maya!" Zay says with a look of horror.
"Zay I think I am the more likely to choose you than Maya but if you wanna risk it..." farkle says calmly.
"Uhhhhhh ... yeah. I'm pretty lucky." Zay looks nervously at Maya, who's grinning like a kid on Christmas. He reaches slowly into the bowl and swirls his hand around, praying he gets Riley. Riley would be safe right? Zay thinks to himself.
"Here! Take it Lucas, take it. I can't look." Zay says covering his eyes. Lucas unfolds the paper and Zay peeks at him through his fingers.
"Maya." Lucas sighs, as he sits next to Riley.
"Nooooooo!" Zay falls to his knees dramatically.
"Peaches! You won!" Riley says cheerfully.
"I won? I won! What I win?" Maya says excitedly.
"Your activity goes first Maya." Farkle smiles. Zay sighs and gets back on his feet.
"Ok I'm done. What are we doing Maya?" He asks.
"Ask smackle." Maya says, a smile in her voice.
"Actually, I think I should keep that a secret. The rest of you will find out the day of."
"Whaaaaaat! Ok I'm not done. Riley, cookie me." Zay says. He lies down on top of Lucas and Riley, and opens his mouth. Riley puts a cookie in Zay's mouth.
"I know it's not as good as your grandmothers but I hope it helps." Riley tilts her head with a hopeful smile.
"Thanks. See Lucas you like a good one." Zay says.
"Sure do." Lucas grins forcefully as he pushes Zay off of him. Zay always says too much.
"Ok that was warranted." Zay says raising a finger up from the floor.
"So what you put Riles?" Maya says with a laugh.
"Mmmm mmm." Riley says through closed lips as she shakes her head. She can barley hold it in, she's jumping in her seat
"Ring power!"
"No!"
"Riley!" Maya says shocked, putting a hand to her heart.
"Not here Peaches" Riley says in a hushed voice.
"Ok fine. Baywindow later." Maya says.
"So Maya do you need Smarkles help for your activity?" Farkel says.
"Help? No, but I will need money. Come on. Chip in, all of ya!" Maya says.
"I think Maya is right we should all chip in everything we have, but for everyone's activities." Smackle says, looking at Maya knowingly.
"Dang it." Maya says.
"Yeah no chimichangas for you." Zays says.
"Hey!" Maya pouts.
"So when are we ganna do this thing?" Lucas asks.
"Tomorrow, Peaches?" Riley says with a smile.
"Yeah... tomorrow." Maya said. She hoped that with it being such short notice, Lucas would not be able to get Josh to come. She wanted to avoid talking to him at all costs. How did Sundance do it so quickly? He has more guts than I though. He really is the one for Riley. Maya thinks to herself.

That evening, the entire gang got texts of what to wear for Maya's activity. Zay groans when he reads that black and camouflage were the mandatory dress code. Lucas and Riley sighs knowing it was going to be bad. Smarkle smiled knowingly and Maya cackled as she wrote out the text. The only one excited was Josh Mathews, when he received a forwarded text from Lucas Friar with the details. He knew exactly what to wear to make the girl of his dreams swoon.

Hey so um... it's been a while😅 Sorry people people, I guess life got in the way. I'll try to update more regularly from now on. At least once a month. I will have another chapter ready on Friday though. So you won't have to wait long🤗 I'm very excited to finish that chapter! Hopefully you guys liked this one for now! I'm super sad that GMW is over. But I won't stop writing, I'll always love this fandom♥️
