"Why didn't you tell me you had a boyfriend!" Maya said excitedly as she jumped up and down on Riley's bed making Riley bounce and fall onto the floor.
"Maya!"
"Oops sorry Riles, I'm just all fired up!"
"Hey what's going on in here." Cory says.
"Nothing." The girls say in unison.
"Oh really? Cause I smell trouble! You causing trouble? Huh!"
"Yeah you causing trouble!" Auggie says copying his fathers accusatory tone but then he giggles and runs off.
"Dad we are just jumping on my bed. Will you calm down?"
"Oh yeah cause you guys still do that!"
"Well Maya is standing on the bed, while I'm here in the floor." Riley gave an exaggerated sad face.
"Ok then girls I guess that's the only funny business here. Mmm looky here," he said lifting his phone "the doctor texted, no more monkeys jumping on the bed!" He said playfully pointing a finger at his daughter and her best friend.
"Mathews you can be so clueless at times..." Maya mutters as Cory closes the door to Riley's room.
"That was close." Riley says.
"Yeah he almost found out that the quiet kid was the one he should have been afraid of instead of huckleberry." Maya laughs.
"Too true." Riley smiles.
"So how'd you manage a boyfriend before me?" Maya said with a grin.
"I don't know ask the boy!" Riley said in a bewildered voice.
"Charlie huh? Wow."
"I know. I bought a new notebook!" Riley grinned.
"Haha wow well let's show Farkel and Lucas later."
"Okay! Just don't forget Charlie too." Riley said with an excitement so exaggerated it was perfect for Riley town-Riley.
"Your boyfriend how could I forget!" Maya said playfully.
"Will you stop that!"
"Stop what? Talking about your boyfriend?"
"Maya!"
"Yes Mrs. Gardner?"
"POOM!" Riley said punching Maya's arm.
"Was that for?!"
"That was for messing with my feelings man."
"Riley you have got to chill."
"Oh are you chill Maya Penelope Hart Friar?"
"Grrrrr" Maya tackled Riley to the ground then she sighed.
"Fine. I'll stop."
"Hahaha not so fun when it's switched around huh?"
"No it's not."
"Well then..." Riley said getting up, " come on it's time to meet the boys at the cafe, show someone my Charlie note book."
Riley hugged the notebook to her chest.
"What's on it anyways? I know why you had one for Lucas but with Charlie every thing is kinda perfect blah." Maya said sticking out her tounge.
"Blah" Riley said back, "here look it's says crush forever:( or boyfriend and girlfriend forever, you never know which is ganna stick." Riley shrugs.
"Oh you guys will stick, that boy seriously like you. Riles?"
"Yeah Maya?"
"Why didn't you tell me you liked him?"
"I wasn't sure before, I just never knew I could feel something for someone other than Lucas... It surprised me." Riley looked down to avoid Mayas gaze, she refused to be caught in a lie.
"I think it makes sense, Lucas was the first boy you ever had a crush on, it is weird to move on from that... Means we're growing up kiddo!"
"What if I want to stay in never never land Maya?"
"You can't honey you have to come back to reality sometime or other."
"Ugh. Ugh I say!"
Maya laughs as Riley falls back into her mattress looking defeated.

"So yeah"
"Yeeeah"
"Yup"
"Mmm-hmm"
The boys were already at the cafe waiting on the girls, a weird energy in the air.
"So no one is going to say anything?" Farkel finally says annoyed. He knew why everything was weird, there was an extra person here that didn't belong, and he wasn't thinking about Zay. It was Charlie. He wasn't a friend of theirs. It wasn't like he was mean or anything, he was pretty cool but the only thing they really knew about him was that he really liked Riley. And judging by the awkwardness that wasn't enough for him to hang out with the gang...then again it could just be because Lucas was staring daggers at him. It was obvious, in a hidden sort of way, that Lucas wasn't having it with Charlie, yet all Lucas would say was 'yeeeah'
"Yeah we been sitting here for ten minutes going, yeah-yup-mmm-soyeah, what's wrong with y'all." Zay said.
"I don't know, what do you think we should talk about Charlie?" Lucas said in a half attempt to be cordial.
"Oh Mmm you don't want to talk about what I want to talk about."
"What is it you want to talk about?" Farkel says.
"Riley."
Lucas looks gets up from the table and goes to order some food.
"See." Charlie continued, raising his arms towards Lucas and letting them fall.
"What? You're saying that because of my boy? Noooo...Noooo he's just getting the girls some pastries, why would that mean he doesn't want to talk about Riley?" Zay laughs nervously.
"Shouldn't I be buying Riley that?"
"Maybe but he's also buying them for Maya and Smackle, so really he's just being nice." Farkel said.
"Nice. Of course he is." Charlie mutters under his breath. Lucas comes back with four warm cinnamon rolls and slowly places them on the table when he looks and stays still. The rest of the guys look up as well in the direction Lucas is looking at. Both Farkel and Charlie fall in the same reaction as Lucas. What had caught their attention was the three girls arriving. They were all wearing the same thing they wore at school except for Smackle she'd changed out of her school uniform. The air seemed to just changed around them.
"Hi" Riley says.
"Hi" Charlie says back with a huge grin.
"Heeey" Riley says
"Maya hi, you look great!" Lucas says in an emotionless tone, before Charlie can get another word out. If he witnessed another one of Riley and Charlie's back and forth he would explode.
"Thanks Lucas, didn't really do much since ya last saw me but anyways, hey-hi-hello"
"Hey-hi-hello right back at ya." Lucas says with a smile on his face, he was doing his best to look interested in Maya, maybe he should try to actually be interested in her in that way... The idea of Riley and Charlie together was become more and more real, what could he do if the girl he liked, liked another guy...?

"Riley I see you have a boyfriend now, please tell me how that happened?" Smackle said.
"What you don't think I can get a boyfriend?" Riley said.
"It's not that I am truly curious how one gets a boyfriend..." She said looking at Farkel.
"Is there something you want to tell me Smackle?"
"Mmm maybe..."
"Ok let's go outside."
Farkel and Smackle go to the tables outside the cafe.
"They are adorable" Riley laughs.
"You guys are adorable!" Maya says, " you're even sharing a milkshake" she laughs.
"We are adorable aren't we." Charlie says with a smile then he pulls out a single pink rose, with a short stem. Riley smiles, takes it and puts it up to her nose.
"Thank you Charlie it's beautiful." Riley says, then she does her best to look into his eyes, desperate to feel something...But all she felt was Lucas's eyes burning into them. Why? Was it really weird seeing her that way? Didn't he think someone else could like her? That she could move on?
"You're beautiful"
"Stop it." Riley says with a smile.
"Stop it stop it all this is making me miss Vanessa." Zay says, "I have to go I'm like a seventh wheel here." He says shaking his head. Lucas laughs at him trying to shake the uneasiness he felt watching Riley with Charlie. Why did he ever think they could be friends with that guy? Oh yeah he was stupidly way too sure of Riley's supposed feelings for him, he hadn't even been worried, didn't even consider another possiblity.
"So Riley you going to show Charlie what you bought." Maya said, with a mischievous look in her eye.
"Oh right..." Riley looked in her bag and shyly pulled out her notebook, her heart was pumping, she was so afraid to see how Lucas and Charlie would react to this small yet huge portrayal of her feelings. Again she wanted to see Lucas fazed and yet she also wanted him to be as indifferent as possible.
"Here Charlie, I bought a new notebook.."
Lucas looks from Charlie to Riley and back, when Charlie begins to read.
"Crush forever sad face," Charlie smiles and turns over the notebook, " boyfriend and girlfriend forever..." Charlie sneakily looks up at Lucas and catches his eye as if to say, your times done Friar. Then Charlie looks at Riley, "wow this is amazing, when did you decide you liked me?"
There is was. Charlie had asked the million dollar question. The one that Lucas was probably wondering about. Heck that was probably the question in everyone's mind, when did Riley and Lucas become Riley and Charlie? Riley took a deep breath of air, then let it out.
"Well it all started..."
