Katarina hesitated when she saw the reporter. Of course it had to be a hot young thing that had to be interviewing her. She knew she was going to feel inferior to this woman who wore a tight pencil skirt and 3 inch heels. Her crew was mostly all men who were handsome and looked physically fit. Katarina smiled to herself as a thought passed through her mind and it was a good thought. She gave Anthony a look which made him roll his eyes and shake his head. He knew what she was up to and was willing to roll with it.
"Ms. D'Amnell, what a pleasure to meet you. I'm Gloria Steins and I'll be interviewing you today."
Katarina plastered a smile on her face as she shook Gloria's hand. "Thank you for taking the time to come out and interview us. We have a lot to cover and please call me Katarina. If you'll come this way I'll show you some of the artifacts that we have found."
Katarina began leading them over to one of the artifact tents noticing how Gloria seemed to stumble as the interview situation was taken out of her hands. A smile flitted across Katarina's face as she thought about how she'd make this interview one that Gloria wouldn't forget. As they walked through camp, Katarina pointed out the different areas that they passed. "The command tent is over there. These are all of the workers tents. Anthony's tent is right there and mine is next to his. The kitchen is in that general area and over there is where we do a lot of our cleaning and researching."
"What all have you discovered so far?"
Katarina looked back to see Gloria wobbling after her in her high heels. She looked ready to topple. It was her own damn fault from wearing such dressy clothes to an active dig site. "Well," Katarina said as she led them over to look at one of the digs. "This one is just like the others we've found. We've found the typical spiral patterns and strange stones here that we have found at the others. Evidence of pottery has been discovered as well as the grave of a child that has long been empty."
"How did you find these dig sites?"
Katarina smiled at her cousin. "Anthony found two men who had an idea on how to find areas to dig. He brought them to me and that's how we've found our dig sites. You can talk to them later if you want to."
"From what a colleague of yours has said, you believe that these people could be older than the Clovis people who populated this area and led to the rise of Native Americans in this country."
"Yes I believe that."
"Are you not afraid of making the Native American tribes angry?"
"I quit caring about other people's feelings years ago. No matter what you do you're going to be stepping on someone's toes. All I ask of the Native American tribes is that they take the time to go over what we've discovered. No one's for sure if they were the first people in the Americas."
"It could hurt your career."
"In archeology, anything can hurt your career. If I lose my career, then I lose my career. I'll find something else to do. My grandmother is a Native American wise woman. People think that I have no thoughts or feelings for what I'm saying, but I do. I come from a long line of Native Americans. It's my heritage."
