Running Fox turned around to see what had happened. He gave a sigh as he saw Singing Raven on the ground. She was slumped against the wall and unconscious. Running Fox bent down and picked Katarina up. Once he stood up he shifted her in his arms. She was bigger than the women of his tribe and harder to carry. Running Fox led the way down the passageway. He couldn't help but notice the woman's body, but she had nothing on his sweet wife Meadow Song. How he longed to see her? Looking down at the woman he carried made him wonder how many years had passed since they had entered this cave for the last time.
Running Fox led the men through the maze of passageways till they finally entered the room that Katarina and Anthony had explored several days earlier. Activity was starting to happen. Running Fox and his group moved through the cavernous room as the people around them came alive. The strange spirals and designs that were carved all over began to glow green. As the glow spread the people scattered about the cavern began to move. It was subtle movements like breathing, twitching, and rapid eye movements. Then the movement spread to moving arms and legs and finally being able to walk around.
Running Fox moved through the milling crowd of people till he found who he was looking for. The Medicine Man was standing talking to two of the Chiefs of his tribe. Standing next to them was Meadow Sweet. The smile she gave him quickly died as she saw what he was carrying. Running Fox gave her a look as he stopped in front of the Medicine Man.
"I need your help Two Moons."
Two Moons was a young man who was just getting comfortable with his role of Medicine Man. He looked at Katarina and then over at Christiana before he looked up at Running Fox. "Who are these women?"
"I know not Two Moons. We woke up and the one Wind Dancer is carrying fainted and the one I'm carrying, Singing Raven, tripped and fell into the cave wall. I believe she broke her arm and it looks like it's already been broken for some time."
Two Moons motioned for Running Fox and Wind Dancer to place Katarina and Christiana on the cave floor. They did as told and then Running Fox went over and stood next to his wife. She looked at him with forgiveness in her eyes and he nodded his acceptance at her. Once the women were placed on the floor, Two Moons began to examine them. He spent little time over Christiana. He picked up some herbs and rubbed them underneath Christiana's nose. Christiana came awake almost instantaneously and gaped at the people around her. Two Moons ignored her as he turned to examine Katarina. Christiana followed him, her eyes taking in her unconscious friend's body. Her eyes found nothing wrong with her friend except for the left arm that was definitely broken. It was even worse than it had been when they had tended to it in the tunnel. Christiana settled down by Katarina's head and watched like a hawk at Two Moons working.
Two Moons picked up Katarina's arm and examined it. As he was examining it Katarina woke up. She tried to sit up, but was held down by Christiana. Two Moons laid her arm down on her stomach and went over to grab some herbs. Running Fox watched as the other woman talked to Singing Raven. Singing Raven spoke back to her in a voice laced with pain. She let out a cry as Two Moons picked up her arm again.
"Does she know our language Running Fox?" Two Moons asked as he began tending to her arm.
"No, but she speaks in a language similar to ours."
Two Moons nodded his head. "Tell her that I am going to set her arm. Give her something to bite on."
