ALI

"What!? Niall's in the hospital? Why?" I exclaimed.

"A car crashed into him as he was walking home. Clearly, he was distracted or thinking about... something else." Becca smirked. I blushed. I hadn't told her about Niall asking me out, but somehow, she found out. Amie probably told her. That girl could never keep secrets.

"I'm gonna go see him today. You wanna come?" Liam asked.

We all agreed to see him after school and parted to our classes. I sighed. Maybe he really was thinking about me. I should have said yes. That way, he might have not gotten hurt. It was all my fault. Now what would I do when I saw him? Apologize? Too awkward and formal. Ask him out? No. Way out of the picture. Whatever. Hopefully, he had gotten over me.

************************

Liam, Becca, and I were all sitting in the waiting room. An awkward silence filled the air.

After what felt like eons, the nurse came out.

"Are you friend's of Niall Horan?"

"Yes." we all answered.

"He has short- term amnesia, due to the accident. He won't remember much things from before. Don't overwhelm him, and don't stay for too long." Whew! That meant he wouldn't remember... you know.

"Thank you." Liam said. We all headed into the room. When I walked in, I saw Niall laying on a bed. He looked really peaceful. He gazed at us as we walked in. I looked into Niall's clear blue eyes. He didn't recognize me anymore. I ran my fingers through my hair.

The four of us awkwardly stood around him.

"Hey, Niall! How are you? Do you recognize me?" Becca asked.

"Uh... no." he answered, looking confused.

Becca giggled. "I'm Becca. I'm your friend!" she exclaimed, smiling. I knew she liked him. Niall just stared at her funny. Becca coughed, looking uncomfortable. "Anyway, this is Ali..." She made an exaggerated hand motion as if she were announcing the queen. I turned away quickly. "And this is Liam." she pointed at him.

"Oh...so are you all my friends?"

Becca winked at me and said, "Even more than friends for some of us..." Becca started laughing loudly. Liam looked at Becca blankly.

"Oh...what do you mean?" Niall asked calmly. I coughed loudly. Everyone stared at me.

"I-I-um..I'm just gonna...excuse me." And I walked out of the room, trying to keep calm.

NIALL

As Ali walked out of the room, I wondered why she was leaving. Becca seemed to know. But I wouldn't ask. They would probably launch into a story that I wouldn't remember. I turned my attention back to Becca.

"How are you?" she asked. "What do you remember?" She smiled. I winced. My head hurt every time I tried to remember. But I tried my hardest.

"I-I remember a girl. And... I was asking her something, but I don't remember what happened. That's it."

Becca's smile faltered for a split second.

"I guess that memory must've been really important."

As she made small talk with me and Liam, my thoughts wandered off to... Ali? Was that her name? She seemed really familiar. I shook off the thought and turned my attention to Becca.

ALI

I ran to the bathroom, fuming. Becca didn't have to make it so obvious! Gosh! I gripped the edge of the sink and let the tears flow. Quiet sobs filled the room as I cried my heart out. He didn't remember me.

He forgot about me.

And now Becca was flirting with him and he'll probably like her and completely forget I even existed. Then the two of them will date and marry and everything. He probably won't even glance at me anymore. I looked into the mirror. Tears were streaming down my red face.

But what if this was a chance? A chance for me to start over? Without all the awkwardness, all the shyness. We could start over. Nodding to myself, I decided I would try again. For Niall. Taking a deep breath, I dried my tears and reapplied my mascara. I have to be strong, I thought. I walked out the bathroom, and approached Niall's door. I took a deep breath to steady myself and walked in.

NIALL

I liked Ali. She was cool. She seemed to be nice. She was really pretty, too. Something about Ali made me drawn to her. Something about her shy smile, the way she stared at the floor, or played with her hair. It seemed like she was avoiding me. What type of relationship did we have in the past? I tried hard to think, but nothing came to mind. It also seemed like she really hated Becca. What's up with those two? The door opened. Me, Becca, and Liam looked up. There, was Ali, standing awkwardly at the door.

"Sorry, I had to use the bathroom really quick." She gave a small smile, and looked at me. I smiled back, wanting her to know that I wanted to be friends with her. Whatever stuff we had before was the past. This is now, I thought to myself.

Ali blushed and looked down. I glanced at Becca. She didn't seem too happy. I looked at Liam. He had a blank expression. Ok....these people were weird. Were they hiding something? Ali walked over.

"How are you feeling, Niall?" she asked with kind eyes. I looked at her.

"I'm alright, I try to remember stuff from before, and I'm able to know some stuff."

"Really? Like what?" she asked cautiously.

"Well...I remember Liam had some kind of weird fear of...forks? Or was it spoons?" Everyone laughed.

"Dude, out of all the things you try to remember, you remember my fear of spoons?" Liam chuckled. Ali giggled. It was like the sound of melodic bells.

"I....I also remember...this girl." I begin. Ali's eyes widened. "I...remember having this crush on her, and I was always too afraid to talk to her. I can't remember what she looks like, only that fact that I really, really liked her. Do you guys maybe....know who she is?" Becca looked shocked. Ali looked down.

"Um...no. But if I remember, I'll tell you." Ali said.

"Thanks." I replied. She looked at me and smiled. I could tell it was a fake smile. What could she have to hide? "Guys, I'm kind of tired now." I yawned.

"Yeah, we'll leave and see you tomorrow, okay?" Becca asked. I nodded. She smiled at me, and walked out. Ali and Liam followed her.

"Hey Ali," I called. She turned around. I saw Becca pause before continuing to walk out. "Were we friends before I, well, you know, lost my memory?" I asked. She hesitated.

"No." She answered. "We weren't. I didn't really know you. But I always wanted to talk to you. We can be friends now. You can tell me anything, ok?" I nodded.

"Yeah, sounds great." I replied. She gave me a smile.

"Bye Niall." and she walked out of the room.
