They let me go without resistance, and I immediately headed for the library. Whether or not Ryan was still in there or even awake this early didn't matter - I've got to get some distance to think. Thankfully I'd found out the upstairs door hadn't been locked, giving me easy access to escape. And to hit the lock behind me meant no entry in the room at all, perfect. Additionally, to my surprise, Ryan was still awake at this hour and sat at her desk working.
My hurried entrance, borderline slamming the door, was enough to make her jump in her seat, causing her to grab her chest in fear and let out a small squeak. "Dom? What the hell has gotten into you?" She yells at me as she watches me swiftly descend the stairs and check the other entrance's lock. To my relief, it's still locked. My ignoring her seems to tick Ryan off as she loudly clears her throat, attempting to get my attention again. "Earth to Dominic? Come in, Dominic?" She tries as I stride across the room, slamming my hand over her mouth.
I press a finger to my lips, begging her to hush, "Will you be quiet! They'll hear us. Can I talk to you? I need your help," I plead, only letting her go once she'd stopped resisting, telling me she understood. She nodded, pulling her legs into the seat beneath her and crossing them before closing her laptop. For a moment, she eyed me before indicating for me to speak with her hand. I huffed a long breath as I plopped into the chair adjacent to her. "It's a long story..." I breathed out as I went into recalling the last 24 hours. I told her everything from the bite down to what Nic and Col said about mating. Also - telling her about us leaving for Romania. She quietly let me recount the events before taking a moment to process and think to herself. I watch as he rubs her chin between her thumb and pointer while her eyes gaze up toward the ceiling.
"Let me get this straight... You let Colton bite you?" She questions after a while, and I nod, feeling the area throb when I focus on it. Her brow raises as she crosses her arms, "why don't I believe you?" I mimic her actions, tugging my collar to show the swollen bite. "Alright, I believe you," she nods. "So then you conked out? And Colton got a call from his sister?"
"Yeah, her name's Odilia. And she said their stepmom wants Colton back in Romania by next week."
She tilts her head, "Odilia? Pretty name. But next week? Isn't that a little short notice? And you three have to 'mate' before you go?" She uses her fingers around the word mate.
"Well, you can come to Romania too. But, yes. Colton says it's the only way he can keep us safe." She hums in understanding before momentarily staring at me. I stared back, waiting a long moment before she finally broke the silence.
"And?" She deadpans, shocking me as my jaw drops. She notices my confusion and furthers her question. "And why is this a problem that you need help with? Just mate with them. You like them, don't you?" she shrugs, making me sigh, dropping my head in my hands. I wish it were as simple as she made it sound.
I shake my head, "That's just it. I think I like them. But how can I be sure I actually do or not? What if the only thing is the fact that they're my mates? I don't want to hurt them if I don't have real feelings for them." And what if I'm letting myself be deluded into a fantasy? In the time spent with them, they've treated me better than in any relationship I've been in. They're obviously interested in me, by all the questions they ask me, but they're also respectful and caring toward me. If I have even a tone of discomfort, they're quick to try and remedy the problem. Even if there isn't one. They borderline worship the ground I walk on. What kind of person would I be to undermine that by not feeling the same way?
