He was most definitely cute. Devastatingly adorable, if you asked Edgar. And rather shy for someone with such a witty sense of humor. And Edgar kinda sorta maybe really really wanted to kiss him.
But honestly though, who could blame him? Todo Rogers had lips made for kissing. They were soft and tinted slightly pink, beautifully rounded with high swooping arches. Someone who was already so gorgeous, Edgar thought, should not have such perfect lips. It wasn't fair. Every time Todo spoke, Edgar couldn't help but stare at his mouth, mesmerized by Todo's voice and wanting nothing more than to lean forward and press his lips to the other boy's exquisite mouth. Needless to say, Edgar had been exercising quite a lot of self control recently.
It wasn't entirely Edgar's fault though. It had been nearly three weeks since Todo had agreed to be Edgar's boyfriend, and they hadn't done much more than hold hands. Todo wasn't big on pda or physical contact. Edgar didn't blame him. Todo had only been in two other relationships, both of which had been somewhat abusive, and Edgar of all people understood what relationships like that did to a person. Todo was cautious and wary around Edgar, and Edgar was careful not to touch him without permission or do anything that could be seen as threatening. But that didn't change how much Edgar wanted to feel those perfect lips pressed up against his own.
One night, after a bonfire hosted by Sherman, Edgar was feeling hopeful. Todo hadn't objected to holding his hand for most of the bonfire, and had almost fallen asleep on Edgar's shoulder. Todo didn't own a car, so Edgar was driving him home. Todo held Edgar's hand up until they had to part to go on opposite sides of the car. Once inside, Todo sat shyly on his side of the car, his hands folded in his lap. Edgar began driving with one hand on the wheel, the other resting on the divider between them. At the first traffic light they stopped at, Edgar shot a glance over at Todo, only to find that Todo has been looking at him. When Edgar's eyes connected with his Todo jumped and turned to stare out the window, his cheeks coloring. It was only when Edgar looked down that he understood. Todo's hand was now resting beside his, the tips of their fingers barely brushing. Edgar smiled, and laced his fingers through Todo's. Todo turned his head back, an expression of surprise on his face. Edgar kept driving, occasionally sneaking glances over at the passenger side. They drove on in silence, until the car pulled into the drive of Todo's apartment building and Edgar disentangled his fingers from Todo's to turn off the engine.
"Here we are," Edgar chirped in what was meant to be a cheery voice, but came out sounding more wistful.
"Yeah," Todo sighed.
He looked up at Edgar, opened his mouth to say something else, then seemed to change his mind and closed it again. He put his hand on the door handle, then turned back quickly and said, "Would you-" at the same time that Edgar began, "Can I-" Edgar chuckled quietly, his cheeks tinted with pink. Todo on the other hand, turned a lovely shade of vermilion.
"What were you trying to say?" Edgar asked, thinking, Good job you absolute idiot! This was your chance and now you lost it!! Also, wow... he's so cute when he's blushing...
"N-nothing," Todo stuttered, glancing down at his feet. "You were trying to say something too, you go first."
"No, that's alright," Edgar insisted. "Whatever you were saying was probably more important."
"Well, I-i don't-," Todo began, "I-i mean I just, I was wondering if you would mind if I-," he broke off into a incoherent, nearly silent mumble.
"Sorry, what was that?" Edgar asked, smiling. Internally, however he was begging Todo to Just get on with it please! Normally it's adorable when you stutter, but not now!! Hurry before I loose my chance...
Todo swallowed visibly, then took a deep breath and looked straight up at Edgar.
"I was wondering if I could maybe kiss you?" Edgar froze. The world seemed to rush away suddenly and then reappear just as quickly. Todo, who at this point was so red he resembled a tomato, looked down at his feet once again and muttered, "Never mind- stupid idea..."
When he raised his head again, however, Edgar had leaned across the divider and was now dangerously close to Todo. Reaching up, Edgar brushed Todo's hair out of his eyes and brought his hand down to rest at the base of Todo's neck.
"That's what I was going to ask you," Edgar whispered softly, before they both leaned closer and Todo's lips were on Edgar's, and Edgar couldn't think anymore.
