9. Mulan
"He's IMPOSSIBLE." Rachel snaps, grabbing her water bottle and taking a few giant gulps.
I chuckle a little, "Rach...What are you doing?"
She puts the bottle down on the grass and looks to me, "Trying to wash my mouth out!"
I share a bemused look with Meredith Woods, and the two of us burst out laughing at her.
"I think you're overreacting..." I reply.
Meredith guffaws, her Scottish accent becoming very thick as she adds, "Absolutely! All you did was kiss him on the cheek, come on Rach, he's not that bad, is he?!"
Rachel tucks a few strands of her new hazel hair behind her ears, "Guys, don't even get me started on him. He insists that we've got to be seen together at least three times a day! I don't think I can handle this much longer..."
I smile at her and lean back against the grass of the large field out the front of Reverie High, the three of us have been sitting and eating our lunch and for the most part of the hour, Finn Canter, Captain of the soccer team, has been here with us. Rachel seems very happy to have him out of the way though.
I try to calm her down a little, "Rach, sweetie. Finn is a good friend of mine, he's honestly not that bad."
She looks at me, her eyes wide, "Tell me something good about him...All he does is annoy me, one minute he's telling me to look like we're madly in love, the next he won't even make eye contact with me in the hallway. I just don't understand him. I've hardly had a proper conversation with him...I don't even know him! And we're supposed to be fake dating each other!"
Meredith laughs again, lying down completely on the grass and letting her mess of fiery curls splay out around her head in an orange halo.
I pause for a few moments, trying to think of the most admirable thing to say about Finn.
"Well," I begin, "I think he's very sweet. He keeps up the whole, motorcycle, jock, jokester image to keep his 'image' intact. If you actually seem him out of school he's nothing like that."
Meredith nods in agreement, "I agree, we actually live pretty close to each other, so I run into him often."
I raise my eyebrows, "See?"
Rachel sighs and take a bite out of her apple, "Not really..."
"Look." Meredith starts, "Why don't you just find some time to hang out, outside of school...Hmm?"
Rachel shakes her head, "That would be impossible!"
"How busy are you?" Meredith asks.
"No, it's not that. I mean, I do have study, cheer practice and work...But I am on serious lockdown at the moment."
I sigh, "It's because of the whole hair thing, isn't it?"
She nods, "Yeah. You should've seen the absolute fit my mother threw when she way what I'd done! I'm only allowed out of the house for the reasons I listed before. I have zero social life now."
