Chapter One : RUSTY
"Remind me why we're here again?" I asked my mom as me and her dropped the last of my boxes in my new room.
"You know why. Because you had another 'incident'." she said, glaring daggers at me before walking out . She must still be mad that we had to move again because of my carelessness. I really feel stupid just thinking about it.
I sat down on my bed basking in this new enviroment I'll have to get used to. Apparently my room is in the back of the house. Let my mom tell it, it's to benefit me and the family.
I got up and walked towards my window twisting the handle to the blinds opening them, allowing the sunlight to beam through. The only view I have being the forest that seemingly never ended. I cant tell if I like that or not.
I'm not scared of most things, if not anything, but it's vibe, was dark. I sensed there was a strong dark aura surrounding it.
I took a deep breathe, sighing. I don't feel like over analyzing this. My curiosity will get the best of me sooner than later. Turning around, I lifted my hand up and motioned it downwards. The sounds of the blinds closing together giving me confirmation.
In this world, there is the unknown.
And only people like me know of them because, well, I'm unknown. At least that's what my Moma tells me. She's a witch so I guess she would know.
The common misconception about witches is that they're all Bad, with crazy grey hair, gigantic hairy moles, and walk around with black hats that are bigger than their fragile bodies.
They aren't.
Not the good ones anyway.
Ma' is a good witch. But all "Good Witches" are is just Angels with a lot of - forget it, my point is we're good.
I walked in the kitchen where Ma and my baby sister, Zuriel, were putting up dishes and plates.
"Zuri," I caught her attention, happily yelling and smiling. When Ma named her that, I had to ask why. It was so.. Abnormal from what I'm used to. She said 'Zuriel' meant My Angel. And that she hoped I would never know the real meaning behind that. I shrug it off to this day 'cause I'm not here for all the cryptic code shit she's so used to doing. I bent down and picked her up in a big hug as she waddled over to me.
She palmed my face with both of her tiny hands and started playing with my lips.
"Rush-tee" she giggled, hugging me by wrapping her arms around my head. She means to say "Rusty", not to be taking literal of course, just a name she likes to call me.
She released me from her grip and turned her attention to the charm on my necklace. I honestly don't know what's so interesting about it. It's a plain, old, silver 'R', but she likes it so I don't complain.
I couldn't help but stare at the scar on her face. Just one of the results that the 'incident' caused. It ran along the side of her eye. I hate myself everyday because of what I did to her. I lost control one day. All I remember is blacking out and when I awoke half the neighborhood was destroyed and we were on our way here.
"It's healing up nicely." I said to Ma' , softly rubbing my finger down the scar as visions of the incident run through my head.
She didn't say anything. Still too focused on the boxes of dishes and putting them away. I huffed and rolled my eyes at her ignoring me, " You know you could've put those away with the snap of a finger."
