I walked through the halls. Listening Carefully to the conversations going on around me. My ear twitched as I could hear bits and pieces of conversation, most just having indecent and vulgar topics. I looked up as I walked into my third period. The teacher greeted me. A wide grin on her face as she waved at me happily. I smiled back at her and examined the room. I took a seat next to some short, dark skinned kid with golden rimmed glasses. He looked over at me and pulled up the baggy sleves of his hod before extending a small hand.
"Hey I'm Tyrek." He said introducing himself. I shook his hand with a small grin.
"I'm T.J. Nice to meet you." I replied kindly.
"Ditto" He turned in his seat to face me.
"So where did you go before her?" He asked.
"I was homeschooled." Technically it wasn't a lie. I taught myself everything I knew.
"Are you smart?"
"Depends on what you consider smart." "I dunno?"
"Then yes I am." I said bursting into laughter. He laughed with me before some girl walked past my desk and shoved my binder off of it.
"Freak." She muttered. I simply picked the binder back up and put it on my desk.
"Hey Tyrek?"
"Yeah" "Where are you from?"
"Florida."
"Nice. I've been there a few times."
"No one cares freak." The girl said as she jumped into our conversation.
"I do." Tyrek said plainly. "Why else would I be talking to him?" He asked plainly.
"Out of pity because he'll never get any friends." She said smirking.
"You don't even know my name. Yet you sit and judge and assume things about me. I'm not asking you to stop. I simply wanna know. Why?" I uttered the words with no emotion in my voice.
"Because I can."
"You know how stupid that makes you sound?"
She scoffed. "Yeah whatever."
"Whatever indeed my friend. Whatever indeed." The bell rang and I turned to realize the whole class including the teacher had been watching the entire thing. I chuckled.
"We gonna start class?" I asked the teacher. She shook her head and smiled.
"Yes of course. Hello class! My name is Mrs. Lennard. I hope to have a wonderful year with my new bunch of students." She said with a smile that stretched from ear to ear.
"I want to get to know everyone better so I want u all to draw a poster and describe yourself with one four letter word." She said smiling.
"I will supply the poster board but that is it. The rest is up to you." She finished as she began handing out the poster board. I smirked as an idea filled my head.
"Make an illustration to symbolize the word as well. They are due tomorrow. Whoever makes the best one will be excluded from the first test and given a one hundred percent." She explained. A mischievous grin split my face as an idea entered my head. You can begin working on your posters in class. You may begin.
The bell rang for the end of class and I put my poster in my backpack and walked out the classroom. Making my way to the hunter training. I got a bit excited as I made my way there. I walked into the class. I looked around. One of the people looked at me.
"Hey freshman. This is a year two class." He spat out the word freshman.
"Well it's on my schedule so you can shut up." I said plainly. The teacher walked into the room and looked around. Her eyes stopped on me.
"You must be the freshman." She assumed
"Yes ma' me." I confirmed.
"Welcome. Maybe you can knock these sophomores, juniors, and seniors down a few notches. But I doubt it." She said with a sigh.
"I'm full of surprises miss." I said with a wide grin.
"Well then go change. Today we are assessing skills with challenges and a sparring tournament."
"Yes ma' me."
We now stood on the school football field. I had on joggers and running shoes with a black sleeveless shirt.
"The one hundred yard dash." My teacher, who I learned was named Mrs. Durm, yelled from the end of the field. She blew a whistle and I took off down the field. I sprinted quickly, leaving the others behind as I focused on the finish. My smile grew the closer I got. I grinned as I ran into the touchdown. I turned to Mrs. Durm who was staring at the stopwatch in awe.
"There's no way. That's a record." I smiled.
"I'm full of surprises."
After a few other challenges in which I ranked best in all of them we stood on a huge mat in a room.
"This is the sparring tournament. This will decide my second in command. Even though freshy here has the position on lockdown." Mrs. Durm said with a small chuckle.
"First up. Canady versus Laroche." Mrs. Durm announced. Laroche ran onto the mat and grinned wickedly at me as he stood in a stance. I calmly looked back at him with no expression as I slid into my own stance.
"GO!" I watched as laroche ran at me and swung wildly.
"The drunken monkey stlye? Interesting." I thought as I assessed his fighting style while I dodged his swings.
I jumped over a leg sweep and blocked my right side as he struck me in mid air. The force made me slide but I had no time to recover as he was on me again, giving me no room to breath. The class cheered him on to beat me and I smirked. I blocked a swing from him and slammed my fist into his chest. He stumble back from the force and I was on him again repeatedly slamming my fist into his body. I let out a yell as I slammed my fist into his chest one final time and he fell off the mat. I popped my neck.
"Next."
One of the seniors stepped in and charged me. I ducked and went for a leg sweep. He jumped so I did a full spin into a roundhouse kick. He knocked my foot away and landed before back peddling away. He planted his feet and charged again. I blocked a right hook from him and leaned back to avoid a left. I slammed my fist into his open ribs. He recovered quickly and swung again. I blocked the hit and caught the next swing. I pulled him forward and slammed my knee into his stomach. He fell over clutching his stomach and I rolled to the side to avoid another teen. I jumped up as he tried to tackle me. I planted my feet on his back and pushed off towards another who was charging me. I slammed my fist into his jaw while I was sailing through the air and I rolled before sliding to a stop. I stood slowly.
"Anyone else?" I asked. I watched as they all shook their heads. I smiled.
"I had a blast." I said; still smiling.
"Now that is what we need." Mrs. Durm said with a smile.
"Now let's regroup and head inside." She said, handing out water bottles. I drank mine quickly as we walked back inside.
We walked into the classroom. I was now back in my clothes form earlier that day.
"So how was that? Will you all take your training more seriously after getting beaten by a freshman?" I bit back a laugh as they nodded their heads slowly.
"Good." She said with a large smile as she nodded along side them.
I walked into fifth period with a solemn expression on my features. I looked around. I could pick out the different types of teens in the room. I Sighed.
"This is gonna be a long day." I muttered.
