My bright fox eyes tore through the night as I stared down the small base. I growled lowly turned to Kevin who was crouched next to me in a tall tree.
"Remember why we're doing this Kev. This mission is to gather data on your abilities and what you're capable of so we can determine your weapon. So don't hold back at all." I spoke quietly.
"Got it." was his curt reply. He was dressed in a camouflage combat uniform with forest green combat boots. His hands were covered in my old pair of gauntlets.
"What's our objective again?" He asked.
"Kill everyone." I growled evilly as i pulled my bandanna over the lower half of my face.
"Let's see how good your sync and switch is." I grinned.
"My what?"
"You'll figure it out. Suit up. Boot up. LET'S GO!" I whisper shouted before turning and back flipping off the branch and landing silently before charging forward.
"Hey wait up!" He called following after me swiftly. I turned to look over my shoulder as i sprinted forward.
"If I kill more than you do. 500 push ups." I grinned evilly. He snorted.
"You aren't my dad." He grinned.
"Of course not. I've made some mistakes..but nothing that bad."
"You son of a.."
I quickly ran my claw over the first guard's throat.
"First blood!" I taunted as he snapped the second guards neck. He rolled his eyes and we each stood on opposite sides of the door, our backs pressed against the wall. I looked over at Kevin and we locked eyes. A few seconds passed before we both kicked the door in at the same time. It flew off It's hinges with no resistance and shot into the base. Me and Kevin stared down a wave of hunters. A grin split my face and I cracked my neck.
"Hell yeah." Kevin and I spoke in unison before we jolted forward.
"Remember. This is a freestyle battle. If you get any ideas, don't discuss. Just execute them and I'll catch on and cooperate the best I can. Got it?" I asked. My only response was a nod.
I quickly pulled ahead of Kevin and I felt him jump onto my back. I smirked as I felt him climb until his feet were on my shoulders.
"SYNC!" I heard him shout. I forced him up into the air before doing a flip, landing on my knuckles before releasing a plasma burst, cracking the cement floor as I was launched upside down into the air. My feet clashed with his ,he used the force to launch himself up further as two glowing orbs shimmered to life above his hands.
"SYNC!" He repeated.
I responded by twisting my body right side up before releasing a plasma burst towards the ground. I was rocketed up into the air. As soon as I was behind Kevin, i planted my feet on his back before releasing a plasma burst behind us which launched us towards the horde of enemies. He slammed the orbs into the ground, upon impact; enemies flew out as the shock wave of power slammed into them. I flipped off of his back, my left gauntlet changing into a thick bat.
"I don't wanna be to blunt.." I began as I slammed the bat into an enemies head.
"But you seem to have...struck out." I chuckled at Kevin's groan.
"That joke was horrible." He punched an enemy in my direction, waited for his body to be within range before sliding to the side and slamming my fist into the hunter's stomach, launching him into the ground, his body bounced from the force of the hit and I snatched his leg and spun before releasing it, throwing his body into a group of incoming hunters. I slid between one's legs before hopping back up to my feet and punching a pistol out of a another's hands. I jumped up and slammed my foot into the hunter's helmet before jumping up to grab the pistol. I planted my feet before planting my feet and pivoting to slam by bat into another hunter's helmet. I followed up with a pistol shot to a few more hunters. Before throwing the weapon to Kevin.
"SYNC!" I shouted.
"Right!" He said before grabbing it by the barrel and slamming the butt of the gun into a hunter's helmet, cracking the glass. He flipped the gun in the air and caught it the right way before shooting a bullet into the hunter's helmet. I grinned widely as I watched him.
Soon we had cleared the building of hunters. I watched as The realization hit Kevin and he hunched over, vomiting on the floor violently. I patted his back softly.
"The first kills are always the hardest." I comforted. He gave me a few small nods as he wiped his lips.
"Thanks Bro." He quivered slightly
"On three, say your kill count." I ordered.
He gave me a slight nod.
"One.." I began.
"Two.."He spoke quietly.
"169!" We slightly shouted at the same time. We stared at each other blankly.
"You've gotta be kidding me." We muttered, once again in sync.
We both froze as the ground shook slightly. The sound of heavy footsteps rapidly grew faster alongside mechanical whirring.
"It would seem as if we've forgotten one.." I trailed off before a behemoth robotic suit charged through a nearby wall. The metal of the suit was a bright titanium. It was equipped with rockets on its shoulders and stood at a height of at least twelve feet.
"What's that?" Kevin asked, his voice slightly shaky.
I slid slowly into a stance.
"I have no idea. I've never fought one. But to me. It looks like a tie breaker. Its time you learn what the switch is. Follow up bro." I chuckled before jolting forward.
Kevin followed quickly behind me. We both hopped, ducked, and flipped to avoid weapons and projectiles shot towards us as we rapidly closed the space between us and the mecha. When I was within range, the mecha swung a massive, clawed hand down at me. I planted my feet before forcing myself into the air, slamming my gauntlet against its hand. I watched as the momentum shifted and the mecha's arm was sent flying back flying back and its foot came up as it stumbled back; leaving it wide open temporarily.
"Switch!" I shouted to Kevin.
"Got it!" He yelled before planting a foot on my back and launching himself towards the mecha.
He flipped himself in the air before planing both of his feet on the mecha's chest. He bent his knees as his feet connected before quickly straightening them, sending the mecha spiraling back.
"Sync!" He bellowed as he fell, his arms out in front of him and his feet towards me; his body parallel to the floor.
"If you say so." I charged my gauntlet before slamming it into the bottom of his boots.
Kevin's body was enclosed in a blinding white aura as he was sent rocketing forward. He tore through the mecha's chest before sliding to a stop on the other side. I sprinted forward and jumped into the air before launching the mecha's head from its' shoulders with a powerful kick. Kevin caught the head and chuckled. We both watched as the mecha fell to the ground with a loud thud.
"Rust in peace.." I spoke with mock empathy.
"BOO!" Kevin groaned as he gave me a thumbs down.
"Oh shut up. My robot puns are just a bit...rusty." I laughed out.
"Oh God! Please stop!" He pleaded as he began walking in the direction of base.
"Oh what? Am I pushing your buttons?" I started clutching my stomach at my own horrible jokes.
"I'm so done." He chuckled.
"Don't die dude. It's not like I have my charger with me!" He finally broke and started laughing as we walked back.
