One Last Kiss {EreRi/RiRen}

Chapter Twenty-Two

*Last chapter recap: Eren is very injured. Levi and Hanji found Eren and rescued him*

Eren;

The excruciating pain I was in made me wince in pain every time I moved even slightly. I was sitting in front of Levi, but I was leaning on him. My head resting against his shoulder and my body pressed against his. I closed my eyes and tried to focus on breathing, keeping calm, staying alive.

"Hang in there." Levi whispered in my ear. I weakly nodded and closed my eyes. Suddenly, a rumbling broke out. "Shit. No no no. Fuck." Levi hissed loudly. "Hanji!" He yelled. I opened my eyes to see her nod as she took off into the trees using her 3DMG. All of a sudden, a fifteen meter Titan erupted from the trees. Hanji quickly went after it and was able to quickly cut the nape of its neck and kill it. She swiftly landed on her horse.

"We have to go faster!" She yelled and Levi and I.

"No shit!" Levi yelled back. I felt the horse move faster as we sped up and continued our way to the castle.

Levi;

I could tell Eren was slowly fading away. I could feel his breathing becoming more shallow and more laborious. I had my arms around him, securing him in his spot in front of me.

"Just hang on a little longer." I whispered to him. We were about and hour or two away from the castle. Maybe a little faster if we were able to get these horses to go any faster.

Once again, the ground rumbled. I turned to look at Hanji behind me only to see her leaping off her horse and into the air towards the Titan. I turned around and immediately stopped my horse as a huge Titan foot landed right in front of us. I clutched onto Eren and tried to turn the horse around, only to see we were surrounded by two massive Titans.

I saw a huge hand come down through the trees and reach for Eren and I.

"EREN!" I screamed as I wrapped my arms around his waist and he turned towards me, wrapping his arms around my waist.

We were thrown off the horse by the impact of the titan's hand and rolled off into a tree. Eren let out a loud groan as I stood up and cupped his face in my hands. "Are you okay?" I gently asked him. He weakly nodded. I saw that some of the cuts he had began bleeding again. "Shit." I hissed. I looked him straight in his eyes. "I love you. You know that right? I love you more than anything in the entire world and I'm not
going to let you die okay?" I told him, my voice shaking with worry. He nodded again and laced his fingers with mine.

"I love you too. More than anything. Just promise me one thing, okay?"

"Of course, anything." I desperately said.

"Just don't leave me. Please, just don't leave me." He whispered as tears began to roll down his face.

"Never." I replied, gently kissing him. I was interrupted by the ground rumbling again. I looked at Eren again, "Stay here. Don't move. Just stay here. And please don't do anything stupid." I commanded him. He nodded, letting out a weak chuckle.

He grabbed my hand as I was standing up and pulled me down to him. He placed his lips on mine and gripped my hand with as much strength as he could muster. He slowly ended the kiss and placed his forehead on mine.

"I love you." He whispered.

"I love you, too." I whispered back. I squeezed his hand and stood up. I took a deep breath and walked towards the rumbling. I used my 3DMG and leapt into a tree. Everything seemed eerily quiet until I heard something.

"HELP! LEVI!" Eren's scratchy voice yelled. I looked over towards him and saw one of the massive titans hovering over Eren. It reached out and grabbed Eren's fragile body.

"LET HIM GO!" I screamed as I hurdled towards the titan and pulled out my sword. I buried my sword into the nape of the titan's neck and it let out a scream as it crumpled to the ground, letting go of Eren in the process. I quickly landed on the ground and ran towards Eren. I knelt down to see his eyes closed and his body looked as if it had been squashed. "Eren? Eren?" I asked him. His eyes slowly opened.

He turned towards me and looked me in the eyes, tears filling his eyes.

"I'm sorry." He whispered. I reached for his hand and intertwined our fingers.

"No, you'll be okay. I'll get you through the this. I promised." I felt myself break down as tears rapidly began to fall down my cheeks and land on our hands. I wrapped my other arm around his frail body and laid him down on my lap. I looked at him and saw life slowly draining out of them.

"You promised not to leave me. And that's exactly what you're doing now. I love you, Levi. Always have, always will." He whispered, his voice fading.

"No, no. You'll be okay. I'm going to get you back." I tried to lift him up but he resisted and I collapsed, tears quickly falling down my face. He weakly smiled at me, tears slowly dripping off his face. I wiped them away and kissed his forehead.

"I love you so much, Eren. Don't you ever forget that." I shakily whispered to him. He weakly laced our fingers together and leaned forward. He placed his lips on mine. I kissed back in a slow and love filled kiss. He broke the kiss and wiped the tears off my face, resting his hand on my face.

"You never know, maybe we'll meet again in another life." He whispered to me. I placed my hand on top of his and nodded. His hand slowly fell into my lap and his eyes lost their light.

He gave me one last smile before closing his eyes.

He was gone.

Eren was gone.
