~  Shelter~

I just walked away from the scene.

I didn’t know exactly where I was now. I had never seen this place.

My main priority as of now was to find somewhere to stay for the rest of the night with no money or anything like that.

I was a goner.

I was walking along some alley way and I saw a boy. He was small and he looked to be about four or five-ish.

He was humming to himself.

He glanced at me and mumbled something. I didn’t quite hear him right so I walked closer to him.

“Mommy?” He asked louder this time. I was a bit confused.

“Are you looking for your mum?” I asked him.

“Are you my mummy?” He asked in response to my awkward question.

I shook my head apologetically before coming up with an idea, “How about I help you find your mummy? Would you like that?” He smiled from ear to ear in glee and hugged me tightly.

“Alright, now let’s go. This isn’t a very safe place for a child to be. How old are you? What’s your name?” I asked the kid. He held up five fingers and pronounced his name, “Dylan.” I smiled at how cute he was.

“Do you know your last name, Dylan?” I wondered. He nodded. “Coddler, I think.” He said shyly. He was really cute and I think he was pretty smart for his age.

“Alright Dylan Coddler, let’s look for your mummy.” He clapped his hand and ran up to me with his hands up. “Carry?” He asked politely. I giggled and nodded.

He was very light.

“Why you out here?” He asked. I was a bit surprised by his question. “I’m looking for a place to stay for the night.”

“Oh. Are you a superhero?” He asked childishly. I giggled shaking my head. “I wish I was.” He hugged me even tighter, “You’re my superhero.” A few minutes later he was fast asleep with his small head on my breast.

Maybe I was meant for this motherly job?

I saw a brightly lit building at the corner of the end of the road.

Maybe they would have a usable computer handy?

I walked up to the place and sighed in relief that it was a library. I swiftly used my free hand to pull the door open and walked in quietly with Dylan still sleeping soundly in my arms.

I walked straight to the computer desks and sat down.

Whilst keeping the five year old on my chest I used my hands to type a website into the search bar on the top right corner of the screen.

“namefinder.com” {Totally fake website} I whispered to myself.

I typed in Dylan’s full name and looked up his family.

A lot of people came up.

I looked through their pictures and found a couple that looked similar to Dylan.

“Linda and Ryan Coddler? Are those your parents lil’ man?” I whispered to the sleeping boy.

I took the silence as a yes and logged off of the computer.

I steadied the child back onto my breast and walked out of the library.

Luckily the address wasn’t far from where we already were.
