The Advanced Mission

Retiring...

Today is the day that I'm going to retire from the military. I have decided that I have to many difficulties that affect my performance in the field. I also have to take care of Mason since he's not going to be in school for a couple more years.

"Mitchell, I guess this is a farewell." Joker said with a frown.

"Yup, I'm gonna miss you." I said.

"I'm gonna miss you too, asshole." Ilona said while hugging me.

Even though I was the one retiring, Gideon would still be there but he won't be deploying. He will be one of the few men and women that train rookies. He told me that he is not very excited because Joker is one of the helpers.

I went upstairs to the bunk that Gideon and I shared and started packing up my things. Gideon then came in with Mason in his arms.

"Hey, are you sure you want to do this?" Gideon asked with a frown.

"I have to... Who's gonna take care of Mason?" I said.

"Wait, what if your arm starts glitching?"

"Knox said that if that happens, I can come here and he will fix it."

"You're positive you want to do this?"

"Yes, why do you keep asking me that?"

"Because, it's gonna be lonely here..."

"I can always come in with Mason and visit..."

Mason lifted his head up off of Gideon's shoulder and his eyes lit up. He started smiling and said, "Yeah! Me and daddy can come visit you!"

Gideon looked at Mason and smiled.

"Ok..."

When Mason and I went home that day, I felt different. Like I had lost another piece of me. I really didn't want to retire from the military but who would take care of Mason? Every week I would go to base with Mason and visit everyone and see how it was going. I was very surprised when Ilona told me she was dating Joker... She told me that he had changed, and he did...

For the first month of staying home with Mason, it was going really well. What I mean by well is Mason is a very well behaved kid. He is also very smart and he is a very good football player. Gideon was also doing well at the base, working with the rookies and teaching them some new stuff. Everything was so perfect... That is until after the first month of staying at home...
