Chapter Fifteen... Returning To New York
I had stayed in Minnesota with my family for three weeks. Lucy was six weeks old when I was finally farewelling my family at the airport and heading back to New York.
"You have to come visit us more often with Lucy," mom smiled tearfully. "Don't forget that."
"I'll be back all the time, I promise," I grinned, hugging her. "I want Lucy to know her grandparents, and Aunty Penny. And I don't want you guys to miss out on knowing her."
"You could always move back, you know," mom offered.
"I'll keep that in mind," I said, tears rolling down my eyes.
They all said goodbye to Lucy before I hugged them tightly. I was going to miss them more than ever before. I had to admit, I enjoyed being back here, and a part of me didn't want to go home. But New York was my home now, and I had to return to reality.
I waved goodbye before I boarded the plane with my daughter. I heard Penelope say "I'm going to miss my sister so much", which brought tears to my eyes.
It was harder than I thought. But I had a long flight home.
When I arrived back in New York, I caught a taxi back to my place. Lucy slept the whole way from the airport to home, which was a relief. She spent the entire plane ride wide awake, but luckily not screaming like the other baby on board.
I opened the door to find Kent sound asleep on the lounge. When I shut the door after putting Lucy's car capsule down on the floor with her asleep in it, Kent leapt off of the lounge, startled.
"Sam?" he frowned, but then sighed when he saw me. "Oh, hi Paigey. How was Minnesota?"
"Uh, hi, Kent," I grinned, walking up to hug him. Something seemed off with him...
"How are you?" he asked, smiling weakly.
"Minnesota was great, and as you can see by all the crap I brought back with me, Lucy and I both got spoiled for Christmas," I told him. "Are you alright? You seem a bit... off."
"Umm... not really, no," he admitted hesitantly.
"Oh, well what happened?" I asked, sitting down on the lounge behind me.
"Sam..." he began. "Sam just... left."
"What do you mean, left?" I questioned.
"We broke up," Kent sighed, tears welling in his eyes. "He cheated, and we broke up."
"What?!" I snapped. "I'll kick his pansy ass!"
"Relax, Paige. It's my fault he went out and cheated anyway. We had a fight, and it was because of me..."
"Why is it your fault?"
"Look, Paigey. I wasn't going to tell him... that we kissed... but it kind of slipped out. And of course, once it slipped out, we got into an argument. He claimed I always chose you, always. And he reckoned I was in love with you. He stormed off angrily to a party with our friends, and he slept with another guy."
"So basically... it's my fault?" I frowned, watching Lucy stir a little but then go back to sleep.
"It's not your fault, Paige. I should have left him, when I realised."
"When did this all happen? Wait... what did you realise?"
"It happened last week. Sam came home to tell me he cheated, and he liked Crayden more than me. He packed his bags and left to move in with Crayden."
