Chapter Nineteen... Boston
After we got back from Minnesota, we began packing for our move to Boston. We'd told my parents that we'd gotten engaged that night, which made them extremely happy. And I now had something to do when the house was spotless, Kent was at school, and Lucy was asleep.
Plan our wedding.
The first thing Kent did when we got back to New York was go out and buy an engagement ring. It was absolutely gorgeous!
Then I had to quit my job, which I'd only just gone back to after having Lucy to work a couple of shifts a week. I would find a new job in Boston, which should be fairly easy.
I also learnt that Kent came from a rich family, something I hadn't known about him before. I always wondered why he seemed to have a lot of money, but never questioned it. Not like it was my business. But he decided to tell me that, since we were getting married now and everything. It was weird, though. We knew each other so well, but could still surprise each other.
I went into Lucy's room with a box, and she was crawling across the floor behind me. As I put the box down on the floor, I heard her laugh from behind me.
"What are you up to missy moo?" I cooed. "Come here, Lucy. Daddy was supposed to be watching you before he goes off to school for the last day."
"Huh?" Kent frowned, walking past. "It's like, way too early to be packing."
"Kent, we move in two weeks," I sighed. "I want everything packed so I can clean. I wanna clean Lucy's room all up, and the crib can go into our room for now. And all the boxes can go into here, out of the way."
"Okay," he shrugged. "Well, I've hired a truck thing so that we can pack everything into it on the day we move, and it will meet us at the house."
"Oh, I still can't believe we're moving from an apartment we've lived in for three and a half years to a house! In Boston!" I was bursting with excitement.
"The future is ours," Kent grinned. "Here, I'll take Luce. You pack."
"Just don't forget to go to school," I teased.
My last class had been the night before. This afternoon was our graduation, and then we'd be packing everything and moving off to Boston. We were renting a three bedroom house, which had a room right next to the main bedroom for Lucy, a spare room downstairs, which Kent's old bed would go in. It had two bathrooms, a large new kitchen, a living room, dining room, a second living area which we'd decided would house Lucy's many toys, because it was designed for a pool table, but we didn't have one of those.
I packed all of Lucy's toys and books into the boxes first. Then I got a new box and packed a lot of her summer clothes. It didn't get to warm here in the city most of the time, but I left a few out in case it did. I also packed a lot of her winter clothes as well, and she had enough that I could, and leave some out as well.
During that time Kent had left for school, and I'd put Lucy down for a nap.
Kent arrived home just as I was making some lunch. As we were eating, Lucy sat in her high chair throwing bits of food at the floor. Kent laughed, but then promised to clean it up.
Then it was time to head off to graduation. We had to take Lucy with us, of course. And she fell asleep in her pram just as we arrived at NYU. One of my professors, who had always admired my work, kindly offered to watch her for us.
As we graduated from college, we knew that our lives would be different again.
"Kent, where is my purse? Did I pack it? Ah shit!"
It was moving day today.
Everything had been packed for days, leading up to this day. And I couldn't remember where I'd put my purse. Lucy was seven months old now, which had just startled us. That time had passed so quick, and I smiled as I looked at her sitting in her pram, watching us run about frantically.
"Paigey, relax!" Kent chuckled. "Your purse? It's in Lucy's pram."
"Huh?" I gasped, looking over to see it beside her, and her little chubby hand on it. "Oh, you had it the whole time, missy! If only you could talk, and tell me that you had it."
"Told you everything's fine, Paige," Kent laughed. "Mommy's silly, isn't she Luce? She's a silly billy."
Lucy's laughter filled the whole living room.
"Thanks, Kent," I chuckled, kissing him. "Mommy's not that silly, am I?"
"Well, we all can be," Kent grinned. "Love you babe."
"Yeah, yeah," I smiled, feeling elated.
We sent everything down to the removal truck. Once it was all packed in, the truck left to make its' way to our new house in Boston. We had a little bit left to clean before we handed the keys back over to the landlord, so Kent busied himself cleaning while I packed the last few things into the car. Lucy had a bottle as I vacuumed the living room and the bedrooms, and then Kent took over as Lucy started dozing off.
It wasn't long after that she fell asleep, and I wrapped her up in a blanket in her pram.
"She's getting so big," I sighed. "My little baby girl isn't so little anymore."
"No, but one day we'll have more kids, and then we can watch them all grow, together," Kent smiled. "Won't that be nice?"
"Yeah," I smiled thoughtfully. "But we're getting married first, you know. I've already picked my dress, and it fits me perfectly. And I love it."
"Is it in Minnesota?" he asked.
"No, it's in New York, actually," I grinned. "Just down the road. I'll be coming back to get it eventually, because it's on layby."
"Wicked," he chuckled.
We finished cleaning the place, and then went down to the garage to the car. Kent carried the vacuum cleaner and our cleaning products down first, then came to help me get Lucy's pram down the stairs. She didn't wake up until I was buckling her into her car seat. Then, she looked at me with her gorgeous brown eyes, and smiled.
"Ready to go to our new place, Lucy?" I asked her softly. "Yeah? It's pretty, you'll like it."
"You ready to go, Paigey?" Kent asked.
"Yeah, let's go," I smiled, climbing into the front seat. Lucy sat there, looking around.
She fell back asleep twenty minutes later, watching the scenery out the window.
When we arrived at our house in Boston, the removal truck was already there. Once we unlocked the house, they started moving our stuff in. I went into the kitchen and unpacked all the boxes, setting up Lucy's playpen in the second living room first so I could put her in there while we moved around. She played with her toys, laughing and babbling to herself. It was so cute.
Once I'd packed everything away in the kitchen, it was almost nightfall. Kent had been busily setting up Lucy's crib and all the other furniture, and then he left to go get some take out for dinner. I made Lucy a bottle, and she had that as I cooked some food for her. Then I bathed her and just finished dressing her when Kent returned with some fries and chicken.
After dinner, I put Lucy to bed, and then Kent and I relaxed on the lounge.
"Holy, what a day!" he gasped. "I am stuffed!"
"You and me both," I smiled weakly.
"Well, now we get to make this place more homey, and then we're set for the future," he grinned.
"Yes, but you can carry me to bed first," I teased.
"Oh, but I did more work!" he laughed. "Nah, but I'm gonna go to bed now, I think. Too exhausted to even keep my eyes open."
"Does that mean you don't want sex tonight?" I asked.
"Okay, I'm not too tired for that!" he grinned, and we both raced off to our bedroom.
Our future started here. A new house, a new city.
What else new could come along?
