My eyes suddenly snapped open from a dream that I couldn’t remember. I couldn’t call it a nightmare but it left an invisible mark in my heart and I don’t know why that is. I feel as though someone needs me right now. I have a strange feeling that I want to be a part of that someone’s sorrow.
I want to remember my dream. I want to remember that person in it. The person was crying and at the same time very afraid of something. I wanted so much to help but I don’t know how. I also couldn’t see her face because it was very bright everywhere.
He climbed out of bed and pulled the curtains apart. It was still very early in the morning and the fog was still thick. He thought about what will happen today: he and his mother will be visiting his uncle and he will also see his cousin, Kevin. He sighed at the thought of seeing Kevin. His cousin always challenges him to a duel every time they meet. He sometimes gets annoyed but tells himself that it can also be called practice.
There was a knock on the door.
“Yes?”
“Good morning, my lord.” The maid said with a bow.
“Is my mother already up?”
“Lady Anaclisse is already in the breakfast room drinking her morning tea, sir...”
“Thank you, Cely”.
“Not at all, Lord Rendell.” Cely said. After that she directly proceeded to Rendell’s closet and brought out his clothes and laid it on the bed. “Just call me, sir if you need anything else”. She said as she went out of the room.
After attending to himself, he went straight to the room to see his mother.
He is Lord Rendell de Colabré, the only son of Lady Anaclisse and Lord Devon, who was unfortunately killed in the Black War seventeen years ago. He was still a baby when his father died and even though he doesn’t have any memory of him, he still idolizes his father. Since he was a child, he has been hearing stories about his father—how a good person he is and how he cared for others and how he valued being just. While he was growing up, it has always been his goal to be a person like his father.
He knocked on the breakfast room door then entered.
“Good morning, Mother.” He said to Lady Anaclisse who was sipping her tea. She was elegant in nature with her black hair loosely tied up on her head. Her dress was made of fine silk and the way she moves is graceful in nature.
“Rendell…come and join me…”
He sat beside her and poured him some tea.
“We’ll be leaving in an hour. Are you excited?” his mother said.
“Not at all. I’ve already seen uncle in the last party I attended” Rendell answered.
Lady Anaclisse laughed. “Don’t you like that your uncle is fond of you?”
“It’s alright but I’m just not excited in seeing Kevin, Mother.” he said. "And you know that uncle is intimidating."
His mother stroked his face. “Your green eyes are lovely, Rendell…it looks like it has seen a lot of things already…things that I do not know…”
“Mother, what are you saying?” Rendell said, smiling. “I’m only like this because I have a very beautiful mother.”
Lady Anaclisse laughed again and Rendell kissed her on the forehead.
