“Has he awakened yet?”
“Not yet, your majesty…” the man said. “The doctor said that it was to be expected because of the seriousness of his injuries.”
“Alright…you may go.” The king said.
The man bowed and backed away.
“…Lucas, are you there?” the king called in the empty throne room. A few seconds later, a man appeared at the end of the hall and walked towards the king, his footsteps were echoing along the cold walls. He stopped and kneeled before the king.
“You summoned me, my king?”
“It was Lord Somier that brought Rendell back, right?” the king said. “He said that Rendell fought with the Brethanians near our border.”
“Yes, your majesty.” Lord Beneufort answered. “It looks to me that they are on the move…maybe even as we speak.”
“I have the feeling that they have finally found them.” The king said.
“‘Them’? You mean…?”
“They have also been searching for them for this past seventeen years like us.” The king said. “We haven’t found a trace of them and how come they became ahead of us?”
“My apologies, your majesty…”
“Lucas, I want you to halt your search for now.”
“But, sir…it still may not be too late to find them.” He protested.
“Divide the knight. Three of them will continue to search while the rest will take care of the Brethanians. Stop their movements and find out where they are all hiding all these years…”
“As you wish, sire…”
“…then that would be all…you may go…”
Lord Lucas made his final bow and walked down the hall. When he was out of the throne room, someone materialized from the shadows.
“Lord Beneufort, what are your orders?”
“Gather all the knights. The king has issued an order.”
“Right away, sir…”
After that he stepped into the shadows and disappeared, leaving Lord Beneufort.
Lucas Beneufort, the leader of the Tearan Knights and also the right-hand of the king. He was known to be a scary person to common people and hold great power that the rest of the knights look up to him. He was also known for being a very good tactician. He was also a man that places duty and the law above everything else.
He had been observing Rendell’s progress in swordsmanship ever since he saw him holding a sword. It already didn’t surprise him that he was chosen to be a knight.
When he was out in the castle grounds, he used his ring and vanished from the spot.
He arrived at a abandoned old church. It was situated on top of a low hill where no one dares to enter. He could sense that he was still alone.
The wind blew from the opposite direction and whipped his cloak. He started walking towards the entrance and pushed open the heavy big door.
The moon shone through the stained windows casting a light glow inside the whole church. He walked up to the front row and took a seat while waiting for the others to arrive.
