"Some of them want to abuse you,"
"Some of them want to be abused."
-Eurythmics, 1983
Elle's POV
I was woken by a buzzing noise. It was a Saturday, so it wasn't my annoying ass alarm clock.I opened my eyes, and stared intently at the ceiling before the idea that I had to get out of bed interrupted with its persistent nagging.
I sucked a deep breath in through my nose, the cold air burning my nostrils. Dad must've forgotten to pay the electric bill again, so we'll be cold for a while.
I swung my feet over the bed, realizing that in addition to us having no heat, I wore short shorts and a tank top to bed. 'Smart Elle, really smart', I thought to myself. My barefeet hit the cold hardwood floors and I shrieked, hopping from foot to foot in an attempt to stay warm (lol, comment if you've ever done this). I ran through my open door, and across the hall into the bathroom door, guided by the sunlight coming through my windows.
After relieving myself and going to see if my father was awake and at work ( a lot of the time he would still be in a drunken stupor, and I'd need to sober him up and send him off to work), I checked the time. 10 am. I snorted. Figures, I have to get up at almost the earliest hour possible.
I hopped back into my room, and checked my phone, the emitter of the cruel, cruel buzzing noise that woke me from sleep. I had gotten a text message, which was strange.
When I had bought my iPhone, I thought it would only be for calling, but whatever. I unlocked it and saw it was from Sean.
Hey, be ready at noon, and meet me by the mailbox, because we're going car shopping!
I squealed to myself and responded with a message of excitement.
Yes!! So excited
I ate breakfast, then got ready.

I threw on a blue button up flannel with some leggings and a paint of B&W vans, and I was basically done. I threw my hair up into a ponytail, and looked in the mirror. I decided on no makeup today, so I just rinsed my face with water and grabbed my bag, and walked out the door.
It was 11:51 AM, but Sean was already here. I was surprised and I stepped onto my front porch.
I ran up to the car, opened the door and slid in, with a confused attitude.
"If you were already here, why didn't you knock or something?" I asked.
He shrugged, finding no big deal of it.
"I'm not on a deadline. Besides, I was early," he rationalized to me.
I rolled my eyes. He saw my small action and chuckled, starting the engine of the car.

The car ride to the dealership was a silent one, but somehow, a comfortable silence. He pulled into a parking spot.
Once he parked, he immediately turned and stared at me for a good minute.
Without a doubt, I was weirded out.
"What?!?" I finally said after what seemed like forever (but probably couldn't have been more than 60 seconds). He squinted. "You look different," he says to me.
I blush vermillion.
"Y-Y-Yeah, I'm not wearing makeup today," I stutter, looking down at the seat and tucking my hair being my ear. I suddenly feel very self conscious of my bare face.
When I look back up, he's grinning ear to ear.
